This time, we want to share our 8-day, 7-night motorbike🛵 adventure in Bali. Exploring every corner of the island on two wheels was both thrilling and liberating for us. The biggest takeaway and trick to riding a motorbike in Bali is: “Yield! Yield! Yield!” Whether it’s at narrow T-junctions or busy crossroads, knowing how to yield is crucial. Riding requires boldness and attentiveness—follow the rhythm of the traffic ahead, speed up when needed, slow down when necessary, and don’t hesitate. This way, the journey can be both safe and enjoyable. Once you grasp this trick, riding in Bali becomes a truly joyful experience!
Accommodation in Kuta
Day 1: After arriving at our hotel in the afternoon, we didn’t waste any time and immediately rented a motorbike to kick off our adventure. We first wandered around Kuta and Seminyak to get familiar with the roads and traffic atmosphere. For dinner, we chose the locally renowned Wahaha Restaurant, known for its flavorful grilled pork ribs—tender, juicy, and perfect for hearty enjoyment. We stayed at The Vira Bali Boutique Hotel, conveniently located in Kuta and very close to the airport, making it ideal for travelers arriving on their first day. The hotel thoughtfully offers complimentary shuttle services and free coffee and snacks from 6 PM to 10 PM, allowing guests to relax after a busy day.

Day 2: In the morning, we enjoyed a leisurely half-day beach trip to Nusa Dua. The beach here is clean, the water is crystal clear, and the atmosphere is more serene compared to Kuta and Canggu, making it perfect for strolling and unwinding. In the afternoon, we headed to the newly opened ICON Bali, a large shopping mall that combines shopping, dining, and sightseeing. The air-conditioned mall is also a great escape from the midday heat.
In the evening, we made a special trip to the famous Asoka Market night market in Denpasar, Bali’s largest and liveliest night market. The stalls were abundant, offering affordable and delicious local snacks. We ordered roast pork rice, meatball soup (Bakso), and Indonesian fried rice (Nasi Goreng), each costing only 25K IDR (less than USD$2), satisfying both our hunger and taste buds. We returned to Kuta for the night, recharging for the next day’s adventure.
Editor’s Note: Asoka Market is often grouped with the neighboring Kereneng Night Market, forming a super vibrant night market area with thousands of stalls. From authentic Babi Guling (roast pork) to colorful batik fabrics, handmade utensils, snacks, and various desserts, everything is available. Accommodation in Ubud
Day 3: This day marked the beginning of the main highlights of our trip. We left our large luggage at our hotel in Kuta, carrying only two 7 kg carry-ons secured tightly with cargo straps, along with a small backpack, traveling light. We rode our scooter straight to our accommodation in Ubud, settled our luggage, and officially started our itinerary. Our first stop was Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, a lakeside temple situated at an altitude of 1200 meters. This temple appears to float on the lake, surrounded by mountains and mist, creating a dreamy postcard-like scene.

Next, we visited the recently popular Bali Handara Gate, known for its symmetrical and majestic Balinese gate set against the backdrop of distant green mountains—a must-visit spot for social media enthusiasts. Back in Ubud, we chose Pison Ubud for dinner. Their signature ‘Ubud Dirty Duck’ lived up to its reputation, with crispy fried duck paired with spiced rice, offering a rich and satisfying flavor.
We stayed at Pondok Naya that night, a homestay nestled in the countryside, surrounded by lush green rice fields. To truly enjoy its tranquility and convenience, it’s highly recommended to have your own transportation.
Day 4: The highlight of the day was the Mount Batur Sunrise. We woke up at 3 AM, quickly got ready, and rode our scooter to the volcano, covering about 45 kilometers from Ubud in approximately 70 minutes. Instead of the strenuous hike, we opted for the Sukawana Sunrise Spot viewpoint, which offers an easy view of the sunrise over the volcano, minus the exhaustion of climbing. As the sun rose behind the clouds, casting golden hues over the volcano and lake, every bit of the early morning effort felt worthwhile.
The viewpoint near Mount Batur starts welcoming visitors as early as 5 AM, known for its excellent vantage point for sunrise photography. It’s a convenient spot for those who prefer not to hike, accessible by car or scooter.
After enjoying the sunrise, we returned to our hotel for some rest before continuing our journey. At noon, we explored the Ubud Market, where my wife happily purchased an Indonesian-style dress for just 100K IDR, a bargain and a great souvenir. In the afternoon, we visited the Tegalalang Rice Terrace, Ubud’s most iconic rice field landscape. The layered green terraces dotted with swaying coconut trees offer picture-perfect views at every turn.
Located next to the Tegallalang Rice Terraces, Tis Cafe has become a popular spot among influencers in recent years. Both the interior and exterior are designed to be highly photogenic, whether it’s the seats overlooking the terraces or the pool area with its resort-like vibe. The food and drinks are reasonably priced, and the overall atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant, making it an ideal place to enjoy a meal while taking in the stunning views of the rice terraces.
While not specifically mentioned in this travelogue, the civet coffee garden is definitely worth a visit. A cup of civet coffee costs around USD$2, and the entrance fee is USD$0.80 per person, which includes a tasting experience of five types of coffee and five types of tea. The garden features many cute and unique photo spots, allowing visitors to not only savor the coffee but also capture some beautiful memories. It’s a small yet refined and leisurely attraction.
For dinner, we chose the popular local eatery Sun Sun Warung, known for its generous portions and affordable prices, making it perfect for a satisfying meal and a little indulgence during the trip. We stayed the night at Pondok Naya Trip in Ubud, falling asleep to the serene nightscape of the rice fields.

Day Five: Early in the morning, we headed to Ubud Palace. With few tourists around at this hour, the palace was exceptionally peaceful, making it the perfect time to capture the pure Balinese architectural and carving details in photos.
Next, we visited the famous Tirta Empul Temple, a sacred site for locals where many devotees come to perform purification rituals in the holy spring. The atmosphere inside the temple is solemn and serene, evoking a sense of connection with nature and faith.

After the visit, we rode another 3.5 kilometers to the emerging Instagram hotspot Sari Timbul by Kubu Bali. Known for its large wooden art installations, every corner is full of dramatic flair, making it a highly photogenic location, especially popular among women, and a perfect spot for social media check-ins.
This place was originally a ceramics workshop. Even if you don’t purchase any ceramics, you can pay an entrance fee of USD$3 to take photos in the compound. The uniquely designed, colorful scenes create dreamy photo effects, making it particularly popular among female visitors. It’s hailed as Ubud’s hidden gem for beautiful photography.

After finishing our Ubud itinerary, we first returned to our hotel in Kuta to retrieve our large luggage, then rode to Jimbaran to check into our accommodation for the night: The Jimbaran Villa by Ini Vie Hospitality. After resting for a while, we headed to the magnificent Uluwatu Temple in the evening. Perched atop a cliff, it offers breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean. As the sun sets, the merging hues of sky and sea leave you breathless. We also enjoyed the classic Kecak Fire Dance, accompanied by chanting and firelight, creating a culturally rich and awe-inspiring atmosphere. We returned to the villa that night, concluding a fulfilling day.
The sunset at Uluwatu Temple is one of the most unforgettable Bali experiences for many travelers. Built on a cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean, as the sun slowly sinks below the horizon, the sky turns golden and orange, reflecting off the majestic coastline. The atmosphere is both romantic and sacred. Pairing this with the famous Kecak Dance performance enhances the unique cultural and natural fusion that Bali offers.

Day Six: Today’s itinerary was more relaxed as we visited the Pandawa Beach area. Once a hidden gem, it has now been developed into a complete tourist destination. Upon entering, don’t miss the unique experience of purchasing a ticket to ride a shuttle car (IDR 30K per person) to the so-called ‘Blue Road’ of Tanah Barak. The most striking feature here is the towering limestone cliffs on both sides, often described as ‘Bali’s version of Japan’s Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route,’ but with magnificent limestone instead of snow. This scene is particularly popular among young people, offering impressive photo opportunities.
In recent years, these spectacular cliffs have become a trending spot among influencers. Thanks to the changing angles and light, every photo turns out beautifully. In the afternoon, we returned to our villa in Jimbaran, choosing to do nothing but relax by the private pool and soak in the vacation vibes. As dusk approached, we headed to The Cuisine Bali at Jimbaran Beach for dinner. Known for its romantic seafood candlelit dinners, the tables are set right on the sand, accompanied by the sound of waves and the evening glow, creating a perfect atmosphere. As the sea breeze gently brushed past and the candlelight flickered, the moment we raised our glasses together became one of the most unforgettable memories of our trip.

As the sun slowly sets, the sea turns into a golden-orange hue, accompanied by the sound of waves and a gentle breeze, creating an enchanting atmosphere. That night, we stayed again at The Jimbaran Villa by Ini Vie Hospitality Trip Booking, continuing to enjoy the serene nightscape of Jimbaran.
Day 7: In the morning, we returned to Kuta to drop off our luggage at the hotel and then wandered around the Kuta area. The streets are lined with small shops selling clothes, handicrafts, and souvenirs, exuding a distinctly Balinese vibe. We also made a special visit to Beachwalk Shopping Center, one of Kuta’s liveliest malls, featuring various international brands and restaurants. With air conditioning, it was a comfortable and relaxing place to explore.
In the afternoon, we timed our visit to Tanah Lot Temple to coincide with low tide, as this is the only time you can wade through the rocky path to reach the temple. Upon arrival, we participated in a blessing ceremony conducted by a local Hindu priest, where sacred rice and flowers were placed on our foreheads. It was a uniquely spiritual experience.

In the evening, we returned to the city and dined at the highly-rated Naughty Nuri’s Warung Seminyak. This restaurant is famous for its grilled pork ribs, which are tender and coated in a rich, flavorful sauce. The aroma was irresistible, making it a perfect spot for indulging. We spent the night in Kuta, preparing for the final day of our journey.
Day 8: On our last day, we leisurely strolled around Kuta without any packed itinerary. Before noon, we returned our rented scooter and headed straight to the airport, concluding our 8-day, 7-night Bali trip as a couple. Although our itinerary was more of a ‘budget-friendly’ approach, relying mainly on scooters instead of private drivers, it allowed us to deeply experience the authenticity and freedom of the island. For us, this trip was both economical and filled with adventurous memories unique to us as a couple.
