Bottom line first: There’s only one formula to avoid traffic in Bali—‘Stay where you play’: Break your itinerary into zones (e.g., first two nights in Seminyak or Canggu, then Ubud, and finally the southern beach area). Within each zone, use Gojek/Grab for rides. Only hire a private driver on days you’re moving between zones or heading to the mountains. This minimizes time stuck in traffic. Our 8-day, 7-night guide follows this logic, covering transportation, accommodation, attractions, food, and SPA—feel free to adjust based on your trip length.

How NOT to Plan Your Bali Itinerary
- Overpacked and rushed schedule: Avoid filling every day with too many sights and activities. Instead, give yourself time to relax and soak in Bali’s beauty and laid-back vibe. A good rule of thumb is to plan no more than four attractions/activities plus lunch/dinner per day.
- Bouncing between regions: Though Bali isn’t huge, traffic jams are a real headache. Moving from one area to another can eat up a lot of time and energy, leaving you tired and frustrated. When planning your itinerary, try to focus on one region at a time to save time and energy, and to dive deeper into the local culture and attractions.
