Bottom Line: Our recommended 6-day, 5-night route is Seminyak (beach/La Brisa dinner) → Nusa Penida → Tampaksiring → Lovina Dolphin Watching (North). Pre-arranging e-visas and tourist taxes speeds up immigration, but baggage claim can still take about an hour. We highly recommend hiring a local driver to help with transfers between regions.
For this trip, we chose Bali as our destination for a six-day, five-night adventure. As a couple, we wanted to experience the island’s culture, natural beauty, and cuisine. Our itinerary included Seminyak’s beaches, the stunning Nusa Penida, and traditional Tampaksiring, with a local driver to make our journey smoother. Let’s dive into the highlights of our trip!
Day 1
We arrived at the airport around 2:40 PM. Thanks to our pre-arranged e-visa, immigration was a breeze, and the tourist tax was handled easily. Unfortunately, waiting for our luggage took an hour, which made us a bit anxious.
Since Agus had a last-minute commitment, his nephew Oddy picked us up instead. He first took us to exchange money, then quickly drove us to La Brisa so we could enjoy dinner before sunset.
After dinner, we strolled over to the nearby Canggu Center market to soak up the lively local atmosphere.

🏠 Our first night was spent at a hotel in Seminyak, wrapping up a wonderful day.
Day 2
Today was packed with a full-day Nusa Penida east-west itinerary, booked by Agus with lunch included 🫶🏻.
Around 6:30 AM, Agus arrived promptly at our villa to pick us up, took us to the dock to get our tickets, and guided us on where to go—no worries about getting lost at all 😌. Our itinerary for the day included two stunning beaches: Diamond Beach and Kelingking Beach. Although we had plenty of time, the trek down to the beaches was quite tiring for someone like me who doesn’t exercise regularly, especially with the rough terrain—at times it felt like an adventure 😂.

After returning to Sanur pier in the afternoon, Agus took us for a massage that lasted about two hours. Since he had negotiated a discount in advance, the price was much lower than the menu rate 👍.
🏠 We checked into a bamboo villa in Tampaksiring, Ubud, ending a fulfilling yet exhausting day.

Day 3
📍Penglipuran Village, ranked as one of the top three cleanest villages in the world. In the morning, there were relatively few tourists here, allowing us to quietly soak in the local beauty.

We also tried a local specialty here—snake fruit—and Loloh Cemcem (similar to herbal tea), which I found a bit hard to get used to. According to Agus, it’s made from coconut water mixed with ground plant leaves, giving it a sweet and sour taste. While it wasn’t bad, I really couldn’t adjust to it. I’d suggest giving it a try if you get the chance 😆.

Loloh Cemcem
Editor’s note: Loloh Cemcem is a traditional drink from Penglipuran Village. Cemcem leaves are one of the main local specialties of Penglipuran. Locals turn these leaves into a fresh, health-boosting beverage.
This green health drink is often thought to taste bitter, as many believe cemcem leaves themselves produce bitterness when processed into food. In fact, this idea is wrong. You won’t taste any bitterness when drinking Loloh Cemcem because the palm sugar syrup balances it out.
During preparation, cemcem leaves are mixed with other plants like jatropha leaves, betel nut leaves, and coral tree leaves. These four types of leaves are pounded and then steeped in warm water. After that, cinnamon and palm sugar syrup are added to neutralize any bitterness. To enhance the flavor, some sellers intentionally add coconut meat. Adding ice makes it even more refreshing! It’s the perfect thirst-quencher in Bali’s hot weather—your thirst will vanish instantly.
Loloh Cemcem is not just a cooling drink; it also offers various health benefits, such as lowering high blood pressure and improving digestive issues. Because of these benefits, visitors to Penglipuran Village often try Loloh Cemcem. It’s also easy to find—almost every resident in the village sells it, usually right in front of their homes. A bottle of Loloh Cemcem is very affordable, so you can try it without worrying about the price.
📍During a break, Agus took us to sample various coffees, including the famous civet coffee 💩. Unfortunately, we really couldn’t get used to it this time 😅.

📍Next, we arrived at Pura Tirta Empul, where you need to wear a sarong to enter. We could see solemn traditional ceremonies and feel a strong religious atmosphere.
📍In the afternoon, we headed to the Alas Harum Rice Terrace Club. I was initially drawn by their pool and the rice terrace swings, but perhaps because we arrived in the afternoon, it was quite crowded. The pool was packed like dumplings in a pot, which I found a bit off-putting, so I didn’t go in. The actual experience fell short of expectations, and I felt there were better options at this price point 🥲.
📍For dinner, Agus took us to a nearby restaurant to try pork ribs and dirty duck meal, but these dishes might not have suited my roommate’s stomach 🫠.
🏠We checked back into the bamboo villa, ending a fulfilling day.
More to Eat, Play, and Explore in Ubud

Day 4
📍The dolphin-watching trip to Lovina was booked through Agus 🫶🏻. The night before, Agus dropped us off at the villa, and it took him about three hours to get back home. Then at 2:30 AM, he came to pick us up again to head to Lovina, leaving him with only about an hour of sleep—it was really tough on him 🫠.
(Video by Feilin Huang)
After waiting a long time in Lovina, we finally spotted a few adorable dolphins 🐬🐬. Though there weren’t many, the anticipation still lifted our spirits.
📍After wrapping up the dolphin-watching, we headed to Tanah Lot in Canggu, arriving around noon. Since it was high tide, we couldn’t go down, so the crowds weren’t as thick as other travelers had mentioned.

Detailed guide to Tanah Lot, including tides and nearby attractions
Probably because we were worn out from the early start, we only visited these two spots before heading back to our villa in Seminyak to relax and enjoy some downtime.
Day 5
📍In the morning, we headed to Pantai Batu Barak, a fantastic spot for photos, though it was quite crowded. You need to pay a toll to enter, and then take an additional shuttle bus from the parking lot to the cliff road—something to keep in mind! 😂

📍Around noon, we had lunch at Malini, and the stunning sea cliff views left us in awe, making the meal all the more enjoyable. While it wasn’t too crowded at midday, if you want a seat by the cliff edge, it’s best to book ahead—otherwise, it’s almost always full.

📍Next up is GWK Cultural Park. The park is grand and majestic, but I found the entrance fee a bit steep, so I didn’t go upstairs to explore 🥲.
📍In the evening, we headed to Rock Bar to enjoy the sunset. Since we weren’t staying at Ayana, we had to meet the minimum spend requirement.
Worth mentioning: we arrived at Rock Bar just before sunset and luckily didn’t have to queue. However, it was quite crowded, with the venue packed with sunset viewers. But once the sun dipped below the horizon, many people seemed to wrap up their visit, and the crowd thinned out quickly, leaving a much more peaceful atmosphere.

🏠For our last two nights, we stayed at Ziva a Boutique Villa Trip Booking, and this villa is highly recommended. Both the pool and the room left us thoroughly impressed. The pool was spacious, giving us plenty of room to unwind, especially in the evening when the atmosphere by the pool was wonderfully relaxing. The room was also spacious and spotless, with every detail thoughtfully attended to, allowing us to enjoy a high-quality rest environment during our trip. The only minor downside was the hot water supply—it couldn’t fully fill the bathtub, and the shower water wasn’t very consistent either. But this small flaw didn’t detract from our overall positive experience, as the villa excelled in every other aspect.

Day 6
📍Around 11:30 AM, we headed to the supermarket and shops to pick up souvenirs, then made a beeline for the airport to catch our flight home ✈️.

Driver Recommendation
This Bali trip introduced us to an amazing driver—Agus Jon Devn. Here’s a non-professional but heartfelt share of our experience. When it came to finding a driver, we reached out to quite a few, but Agus was the fastest to respond, with a proactive attitude and very reasonable pricing, making him feel incredibly reliable and reassuring.

Agus Jon Devn (Photo by Feilin Huang)
Why Recommend Agus Jon Devn?
🫶🏻 Customized Itinerary Planning
We only gave Agus a rough idea of the spots we wanted to visit, and he immediately planned the most efficient route based on our needs. Not only that, but if anything changed on the fly, he could adjust at any time—super flexible, so we never had to worry about our plans falling apart. It made our trip relaxed and spontaneous, completely stress-free.
🫶🏻 Hidden Perks for Booking Tours & Massages
Agus wasn’t just a driver—he also helped us book various tours and massages! The prices were even cheaper than what we found online or on local menus. It felt like having a local insider connection, saving us a good amount without even trying.
🫶🏻 Excellent Time Management
Every time we agreed on a meeting time, Agus was not only punctual but often early. It surprised us and even made us a little embarrassed, because he was always ready before us, waiting by the car with a smile when we got in 🤣.
🫶🏻 Impromptu Tour Guide & Cultural Interpreter
At each destination, Agus didn’t just drop us off—he came along and acted as a spontaneous guide, enthusiastically sharing the local culture and history. Even though our English wasn’t great and we struggled to catch everything, his passion still made us feel his deep connection to the land. That said, it’s worth noting that a driver’s main job is driving, not guiding. If your driver doesn’t offer tour-guide service, that’s perfectly normal; if they do, consider it a bonus!
🫶🏻 Help with Bargaining
When shopping at the market, Agus even helped us pick out fruit and negotiate prices with the local vendors. We often noticed that the prices quoted to us dropped when he stepped in, making us feel like we had a shopping ally! 😆
🫶🏻 Unbeatable Driving Skills
His driving skills are truly reassuring. I usually get carsick easily, but every time I’m in Agus’s car, I sleep soundly without any discomfort. Especially on the two days we stayed in a treehouse villa, the roads were extremely narrow and winding—a challenge for most drivers, but no problem at all for Agus. His skill is truly impressive! 👍👍

🫶🏻 Thoughtful Luggage Storage
One day we arranged a day trip to a nearby island, and Agus kindly let us leave our luggage in his car, so we could travel light without carrying heavy bags. Such thoughtful service really adds value!
🫶🏻 Professional Photographer
Agus also served as our photographer, skilled at both taking photos and recording videos, helping us capture many beautiful memories.
🫶🏻 Souvenir Shopping Expert
Whenever we mentioned souvenirs we wanted to buy, Agus was always attentive. When we passed by shops, he would proactively stop to let us shop. On one occasion, he even took time on his own to buy us the cigarettes we mentioned wanting. Such thoughtfulness truly moved us! 🥹
In summary, Jon Devn (Agus) is not just a driver but also a caring butler and friend on our trip. His professionalism, enthusiasm, and attentiveness made our Bali journey more complete and worry-free. Next time we come to Bali, we will definitely hire him again!

The plane took off at 3:40 PM, and with a heart full of memories and nostalgia for Bali, we ended this unforgettable journey.
This trip to Bali was full of exploration and surprises—I can’t wait to set foot on this beautiful land again!
