Common Questions About VISA:
❓ Do I need a visa (VoA, Visa on Arrival)?
Currently, 13 countries enjoy visa-free entry (see the list here). Other countries, including Taiwan, China, and over 80 others, require a visa.
❓ Do children need a visa?
Visa requirements are not age-based; even infants need to apply.
❓ Where can I apply for an eVisa?
Please refer to this article for further details.
❓ Don’t want to apply for an e-Visa? Where to get a Visa on Arrival and what documents are needed?
If you haven’t applied for an e-Visa in advance, head straight to the Visa on Arrival counter after landing. Prepare the following:
- Passport valid for at least six months
- At least one full blank page in your passport for the visa stamp
- Return or onward flight ticket
- Cash or credit card for payment (IDR 500,000 or equivalent in USD. Also accepted in EUR, GBP, AUD, and SGD cash)
❓ How long does it take to get an e-Visa approved?
Once you fill out the application form carefully, upload your photo, and submit successfully, you’ll receive a QR code in your registered email immediately.
❓ How far in advance can I apply for an e-Visa?
A standard tourist e-Visa is valid for 90 days from the date of issuance; you must depart within 30 days from the date of entry.
❓ What’s the secret to a successful online application?
According to tips from fellow travelers in the community, using a Gmail email address and applying during business hours increases your chances of success.
❓ What if the first and last name auto-filled by the system don’t match my passport?
According to group members, it’s been reported that you can still pass through customs without issues.
If the system doesn’t auto-fill, please enter the information manually.
❓ Name format: Should I enter my given name first, followed by my surname? Do I need a space?
Since the system doesn’t accept hyphens (-) or other symbols in names, if your passport name includes a hyphen, you can replace it with a space or simply remove it. For example, if your passport shows “Wang, Fa-Fa,” you can manually enter it as “Wang, Fa Fa” or “Wang, Fafa.”
❓ Name order: Should the given name come first or the surname?
Just copy the format exactly as it appears on your passport—it’s foolproof, and no one can say you’re wrong!
❓ Place of birth and date of birth
Place of Birth and Date of Birth must match your passport exactly.
❓ What should I fill in for Issuing Country?
If the system does not automatically fill it in, travelers with Taiwanese nationality can enter ROC, Taiwan, or China — all are acceptable.
❓ How to convert an image file to PDF on your phone?
📱【How to Convert Images to PDF on Your Phone】
✅ For iPhone (iOS):
- Open the screenshot or photo in your Photos app.
- Tap the Share icon (a square with an arrow) in the bottom-left corner.
- Scroll down and select Print.
- Use two fingers to pinch and zoom in on the photo.
- A PDF preview will appear. Tap Share in the top-right corner → choose Save to Files or Save to iCloud Drive.
✅ For Android Phones:
- Open the image you want to convert in your Gallery or Photos app.
- Tap the Share button in the top-right corner → select Print.
- In the printer options, choose Save as PDF.
- Tap the Download icon to save the file.
❓ What if the credit card payment fails at the final step?
If payment fails, you’ll need to reapply. Sometimes switching to a different card works (AMEX is not accepted; please use JCB, VISA, or Mastercard).
❓ Watch the dates!
Once your eVOA is issued, you must use it within 90 days — meaning you must enter Indonesia within 90 days from the issue date. If you do not enter within this period, the visa will automatically expire and become invalid.
When filling in the arrival date, be careful not to mistakenly enter the departure date.
❓ Why does the Date of Issue automatically show the application date?
The Date of Issue on your e-Visa is the date you applied for the eVOA — it has nothing to do with the Date of Issue on your passport. So seeing the date you applied for the eVOA is correct.
What if I filled in this field incorrectly? The Date of Issue here is just for your reference on the e-Visa’s application/issuance date. As long as you successfully applied and paid, you’ll be fine!
❓ What if I filled in the Date of Issue or Place of Birth incorrectly?
If you notice a mistake:
- The Date of Issue is just for your own reference on the entry date — it doesn’t matter if it’s wrong.
- According to reports from travelers, entering Taiwan or the place of birth as shown on your passport both work for automated immigration clearance.
❓ Can children also use automated immigration clearance?
Children aged 6 and above can also use the airport’s automated immigration clearance. Check out the guide to visas for children entering Indonesia/Bali.
❓ How long is a tourist visa valid? What happens if it expires?
A tourist visa is valid for 30 days upon entry. You can extend it once at the local immigration office or online, allowing a maximum stay of 60 days.
If you overstay, you’ll be fined 1,000,000 Indonesian Rupiah per day and considered an illegal resident, which may lead to detention, deportation, and a ban from entering Indonesia for a certain period.
