The following content is provided by fellow traveler Ye Tingyu
At the end of April, we embarked on an 11-day free trip to Bali and Lombok. This journey remains unforgettable to this day. When planning this trip, I referred to many travelogues and suggestions from experienced travelers, knowing that planning a journey is not easy. Therefore, I hope to take this opportunity to share some of the recommended spots we visited, along with short videos of each location, to help everyone feel the local atmosphere and decide whether to include these spots in their own itinerary.
Our journey took us to five main areas: Jimbaran, Uluwatu, Ubud, the Gili Islands, and Kuta. In this article, I will focus on the first three areas—Jimbaran, Uluwatu, and Ubud—sharing recommendations and personal reviews of the attractions (these recommendations and reviews are purely personal opinions, and I welcome any differing thoughts for discussion).
Recommended Attractions in Bali
Sunset Seafood Dinner at Jimbaran Beach

Jimbaran Seafood (provided by Ye Tingyu)
Recommendation Rating: 🌟🌟🌟
Stay Duration: 2.5 hours
Jimbaran Beach is renowned as one of the ‘World’s Top Ten Sunset Beaches,’ and its scenery is truly impeccable. Both the ocean views and sunsets are breathtakingly beautiful. However, the prices at the restaurants here can be quite hard to swallow. This was our first meal after landing, and the three of us ended up spending over USD$160, which left us stunned by the high costs.
While dining on the beach in the evening, bands often play around the seating area and request tips, which can feel a bit like emotional extortion. Therefore, if you plan to dine here, it’s advisable to check restaurant reviews beforehand to decide whether to enter. The beauty of Jimbaran Beach is worth seeing, but you need to be more cautious when choosing a restaurant.

GWK Cultural Park in Jimbaran

Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park (Photo by Ye Tingyu)
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Recommended Duration: 3 hours
GWK Cultural Park is a highly worthwhile attraction. The majestic statue of Vishnu, visible even from the airport, stands 30 meters taller than the Statue of Liberty, leaving a deep impression. The entire park is grand and solemn, offering a sense of tranquility and reverence as you stroll through it. Sipping coconut water while exploring the park is a delightful experience. The souvenir shop inside is extensive and well-stocked, perfect for shopping enthusiasts. Additionally, the air-conditioned restrooms next to the park provide a refreshing escape from the heat. GWK Cultural Park is not only visually stunning but also well-equipped, making it a must-visit destination.

Uluwatu Temple Kecak Fire Dance

Kecak Fire Dance
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟
Duration: 1.5 hours
The Kecak Fire Dance performance at Uluwatu Temple narrates Balinese mythological stories, attracting nearly 2000 spectators, creating a spectacular scene. While watching this performance, you can enjoy the exquisite dance and the magnificent crimson sunset simultaneously, offering an unforgettable visual and cultural experience.
It is recommended to familiarize yourself with the story outline beforehand to better immerse yourself in the performance; otherwise, you might find it boring due to incomprehension. It’s worth noting that the fire dance part lasts only about 5 minutes at the climax towards the end, and it should not be confused with the fire dance performances by street artists in Taiwan.
The Kecak Fire Dance performance at Uluwatu Temple is a visual feast combining culture and natural beauty. While the fire dance portion is brief, the overall atmosphere and quality of the performance make it well worth watching.

Uluwatu Oneeighty Club Cliffside Bar

Oneeighty Day Club (provided by Ye Tingyu)
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Duration: 3.5 hours
Oneeighty Club Cliffside Bar is an extravagant venue perched on a cliff, featuring a photogenic pool that alone can occupy two hours of your time. The entrance fee is redeemable against purchases, making it feel like good value for money. The food here is among the best in the Uluwatu area and is definitely worth trying.
However, remember to wash your hands after swimming before handling food, as it’s easy to contract ‘Bali Belly’ (traveler’s diarrhea) here—a lesson I learned the hard way.
Oneeighty Club Cliffside Bar attracts many visitors with its unique location and high-quality food. It’s a great place to relax and capture stunning photos, but be mindful of hygiene to avoid ruining your travel experience.

Ubud Monkey Forest

Monkey Forest (Photo provided by Yeh Ting-Yu)
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Duration: 2 hours
The Sacred Monkey Forest is a quaint and enchanting destination filled with artistic statues, caves, and totems, making visitors feel like they’re on an adventure. The number of monkeys here even surpasses the tourists, and their free-spirited behavior is fascinating. We witnessed some peculiar sights, such as monkeys smoking, drinking cola, and even appearing to be under the influence.
When visiting the Sacred Monkey Forest, it’s essential to follow the park’s monkey rules to avoid any potential attacks. Additionally, there’s a fun service where you can pay USD$3 to have a monkey hold your phone for a selfie. Although it’s a trick shot, the photos look incredibly realistic, adding a lot of fun to your trip.
The Sacred Monkey Forest is a culturally rich and surprising place, perfect for visitors who love animals and adventure.

Penglipuran Village in Ubud

Penglipuran Village (Photo provided by Ye Tingyu)
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Recommended Stay: 2 hours
Penglipuran Village is renowned as one of the cleanest villages in the world. Every household here is open to visitors, allowing tourists to step inside and gain a deeper understanding of the locals’ daily lives and simple way of living. The architecture and streetscapes in the village are highly distinctive, making every shot a picturesque scene. The village’s iconic split gates are a must-see photo spot.
As most visitors are locals, the village retains an authentic charm without excessive commercialization. The villagers are friendly and hospitable, offering a warm sense of community.

Tegalalang Rice Terrace in Ubud

Tegallalang Rice Field (Photo by Yeh Ting-Yu)
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Recommended Duration: 2.5 hours
Located just a 20-minute drive from Ubud city center, the Tegalalang Rice Terrace is a magnificent UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, visitors can marvel at the stunning layered rice terraces and enjoy thrilling swing activities. Although a 2-minute swing experience costs around USD$13, the breathtaking photos taken here, especially in long dresses, make it worth every penny.
In addition, there are many other photo spots here, such as bird nests and heart-shaped decorations, all perfect for Instagram-worthy shots. However, it’s worth noting that due to the high humidity, prolonged exposure might lead to headaches. Therefore, it’s advisable to take regular breaks and stay hydrated.
Tegalalang Rice Terraces not only offer breathtaking views but also provide a variety of experiential activities, making it an excellent journey that combines nature and adventure, definitely worth a visit.

Ubud Coffee Plantation
Recommendation Rating: 🌟🌟🌟
Duration: 1 hour
In Ubud, there are many civet coffee plantations. We chose one recommended by our driver, which offered a tasting experience of 16 different types of tea and coffee. The tasting experience was indeed enjoyable, allowing us to try a variety of flavors in one go.
However, upon returning home and conducting some research, we found that these plantations have received quite a few negative reviews. The main issue is that the products they sell do not match the samples tasted. Therefore, it’s advisable to do thorough research and check reviews before visiting these coffee plantations to avoid any unpleasant shopping experiences.

Jungle Gym at Ubud Wapa Diu Hotel
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Duration: 1.5 hours
The jungle gym at Ubud Wapa Diu Hotel offers an exceptionally unique fitness experience with a 360-degree panoramic view of Ubud’s natural landscape. Nestled between rice fields and jungle, it allows you to exercise amidst stunning natural scenery—an experience I consider truly rare!
Although the gym equipment is limited, the low foot traffic means you can practically have the place to yourself, enjoying a private and tranquil workout space. This unique atmosphere makes the entire fitness process more comfortable and focused.
The jungle gym at Ubud Wapa Diu Hotel not only provides fitness facilities but also allows you to relax your mind and body in a natural environment, making it an ideal spot to escape the hustle and bustle and find peace.
