Nuanu Creative City is a sprawling 44-hectare creative complex located in Tabanan, Bali (south of Tanah Lot Temple), founded in 2020 by Russian tech entrepreneur Sergey Solonin with a total investment of USD$100 million. The ambitious project’s name, Nuanu, derives from Balinese, meaning ‘in progress,’ symbolizing the ever-evolving and developing nature of this creative city. Solonin launched this project after relocating to Bali five years ago, aiming to create an ecosystem where art, technology, and nature coexist harmoniously.

The core ethos of Nuanu Creative City is built upon the traditional Balinese philosophy “Tri Hita Karana,” which emphasizes harmonious balance between humans and gods, humans and other humans, and humans and nature. The landmark “THK Tower” (Tri Hita Karana Tower) embodies this philosophy. Designed by architect Arthur Mamou Mani and constructed using reclaimed wood, this spiral tower is not only a visual focal point but also symbolizes Nuanu’s spiritual core.

Solonin stated: “Our goal is to create a space where art, nature, and technology merge in a balanced and innovative way. This is not just infrastructure but a lasting dialogue with Bali’s heritage.” He positions Nuanu as an “experiential park,” blending education, wellness, and sustainable architectural living, aiming to become a quintessential example of a future utopia.

永續發展與環境承諾

The most notable feature of Nuanu Creative City is its firm commitment to environmental sustainability. Across its 44-hectare site, the developers have pledged to preserve two-thirds (approximately 70%) as natural landscape, with only 30% allocated for construction. Specific environmental initiatives include:
- Tree Planting Initiative: Planting 15,000 trees in educational zones to enhance biodiversity and carbon sequestration
- Waste Management: Recycling 70% of waste generated within the complex
- Ecosystem Protection: Preserving large trees and relocating them within the complex when necessary
- Mangrove Conservation: Protecting and expanding mangrove ecosystems, replanting mangrove saplings and native coastal species
- Zero-Emission Transition: Gradually adopting zero-emission vehicles to reduce carbon footprint
These measures distinguish Nuanu from the prevalent overdevelopment seen in Bali, positioning it as a model project for sustainable development.
Community Engagement and Global Vision
Nuanu is not just a physical space but a vibrant creative community. Each project partner commits 5% of their monthly revenue to the Nuanu Social Fund, dedicated to reforestation or social initiatives. This fund has supported various community projects, such as establishing a computer education center in Beraban Village and preserving traditional Balinese music.
Solonin’s vision for Nuanu’s future is: “Over the next decade, Nuanu will become a dynamic global hub, attracting the world’s most innovative minds to live, collaborate, and visit. It will be a vibrant community for visionaries, artists, and changemakers to live and work in thoughtfully designed spaces that inspire creativity.”
Nuanu Creative City commenced operations in July 2024, hosting a series of international events including the Suara Art Music Festival, CoinFest Web3 Festival, and DEEP Wellness Festival, further cementing its status as a crossroads of innovation and culture.
This creative city represents a new model of urban development, demonstrating that modern development can address contemporary issues while respecting local traditions, inviting people to join in the journey toward a sustainable future. As one observer noted, Nuanu is not just a tourist destination in Bali but a “space to live, work, and create—a city of the future.”
