6-Day 5-Night Bali Family Trip: From Ubud to Canggu Itinerary

On this Bali trip, we set off with great excitement, exploring the cultural charm of Ubud, enjoying the leisurely time at Atlas Beach Club, and tasting delicious street food at local night markets. From the moment we arrived on a red-eye flight, our family was captivated by Bali’s allure. This travelogue will take you through our 6-day, 5-night itinerary, sharing the beauty and surprises of each day.

Day 1: Red-Eye Flight and First Glimpse of Ubud

We planned a 6-day, 5-night family trip to Bali, choosing a red-eye flight with Scoot. We had a layover of about 2 hours in Singapore, where we grabbed breakfast and explored Singapore’s airport. We arrived in Bali around 10:00 AM and immediately started exploring, wasting no time!

Since we bought a SIM card in Taiwan beforehand, we were able to quickly contact our private driver for this trip—Mr. Awan from Bali Holiday.

He was very friendly, communicated effortlessly in English, and his car was a highly recognizable pink vehicle, easy to spot wherever we went. After getting in, we asked him to take us to exchange currency first, then headed to Ubud. Along the way, we visited a beautiful waterfall (Tegenungan Waterfall) and then stopped at a supermarket to buy snacks and drinking water.

This time we stayed at “Ubud Paradise,” a villa we booked on a hotel booking site. The villa boasts a beautiful environment and a strong family atmosphere, making us feel warmly welcomed.

Day 2: River Tubing and Ubud Adventure

On the second day, we headed out for a river tubing adventure, which Awan helped us book. We bought tickets on-site, and the price matched the listed rate. We considered purchasing tickets in advance on the Klook or KKday websites, but I felt that would offer less flexibility. Initially, I thought this activity would be gentle, but it turned out to be quite fun and slightly challenging. My husband and kids had a blast—it’s perfect for a family outing!

Next, we headed to the rice terrace attraction. The local swing guys had amazing photography skills—they used slow motion, video, and portrait modes to capture the scenery, and they knew exactly when to snap the perfect shot. Way better than my husband’s photography! 🤣

In the afternoon, we happily visited the Sacred Monkey Forest, where we were surrounded by monkeys. Then we went to the Ubud Market for some shopping, and bargaining was so much fun! Most of the items in the market are repetitive, so I usually choose shops where I feel a good connection with the sellers.

Day 3: Safari Zoo and Night Market Experience

On the third day, we visited Safari Zoo. Although it’s a bit far from Ubud, it’s definitely worth a visit for families with kids! The animals here seemed very relaxed, bringing us closer to them. There’s a petting zone where you can buy tickets to feed small animals—the kids couldn’t get enough of it. During our walk, we saw other tourists picking up rabbits for photos, making them look helpless, which gave me a chance to teach the kids about respecting animals.

Around noon, we caught a tiger show by chance, and I was blown away. It was my first time seeing tigers up close, and they weren’t in glass cages—they even interacted with the staff. It was truly a sight to behold!

In the evening, we asked Awan to take us to a local night market. We first walked around, and he introduced us to various foods. Then he helped us order from the stalls (since some vendors don’t speak English). We enjoyed roast pork rice, chicken meatball noodles, chicken satay, pork satay, and bought a bunch of local desserts to take back to our accommodation. The total cost was less than USD$10—such a great deal and a fun experience!

Day 4: Tanah Lot Temple & Canggu Market Stroll

On the fourth day, we visited the iconic Tanah Lot Temple. Lucky for us, it was low tide, so we could walk down to the beach. The weather was perfect—every snapshot looked like a masterpiece, easily worthy of a desktop wallpaper.

In the afternoon, we headed to Canggu and browsed the Love Anchor Market. However, it was a bit of a letdown. We’d hoped to find some unique souvenirs, but the items were pretty similar to what you’d see at Ubud Market. Honestly, it’s not worth a special trip (there’s not much else to explore nearby, and prices are higher).

As evening fell, we visited a nearby beach and tried the influencer-recommended grilled corn—it lived up to the hype! One cob was just 20K IDR, delicious and a great deal.

Day 5: A Relaxing Day at Atlas Beach Club

On the fifth day, we spent the entire day at Atlas Beach Club.

I purchased tickets in advance on Klook. When I arrived, I just scanned the QR code, and they prepared the entry passes and arranged for someone to guide us—very convenient. The Atlas Club is truly worth recommending. There’s a shallow pool for kids, a huge infinity pool, and the beach is right next to it, so you can walk down and feel the waves. The ticket includes a certain amount of food or drinks; you only pay extra if you go over that amount.

In the evening, we asked Awan to take us to the nearby Seminyak shopping area for more retail therapy. I noticed that international brands in Bali are generally overpriced, so I recommend supporting local brands instead—they offer great quality at reasonable prices!

Day 6: Last-Minute Shopping and Farewell to Bali

On our last day, Awan took us to a huge, duty-free-like shopping spot (Krisna Toko Oleh Oleh Kas Bali) as we requested. While the items there aren’t particularly refined, they have everything—from food and clothing to home decor and accessories. At this stop, we grabbed all the souvenirs we hadn’t bought yet, filling the car with our haul and ending the trip on a very satisfying note.

This was our first time in Bali. Before leaving, I had watched many videos, so I thought I was prepared, but Bali’s beauty still exceeded my imagination! The traffic and the pace of life here are very laid-back. Even though traffic jams are common, you rarely hear honking—everyone is incredibly patient! Except for the roads near the airport, which have white lines, the road planning elsewhere is quite casual. Sometimes a two-way road suddenly becomes one-way, leaving you scratching your head 😂. That’s why I strongly recommend that for family trips (or groups of three or more), hiring a private driver is more convenient and safer.

Finally, I want to recommend our driver for this trip—Awan from Bali Holiday. From the very first day, we felt his warmth and helpfulness. Even though I had prepared an itinerary for him before departure, we often changed plans on the fly due to fatigue or time constraints. He was always flexible in adjusting our schedule and offered great advice, like which routes were smoother and how long to spend at each spot.

On two other days, I asked him to arrange for massage therapists to come to the villa, and he did his best to coordinate the timing. Overall, Awan is an excellent private driver. Although he’s not part of a large company, his personal touch made us feel truly warm, and my family got along with him wonderfully! If I ever have the chance to visit Bali again, I will definitely choose this driver again, and I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a private driver!
