Day 1: Canggu

Hea Travel & Food admired the stunning ocean views at Tanah Lot and learned about the local religious culture.
Her first stop was Tanah Lot in Canggu, Bali. This temple is built on the coast, and it is said that the sea god resides here. She shared a folk tale about Tanah Lot: Long ago, a fisherman went out to sea and encountered a fierce storm. His boat was swallowed by the waves, and he disappeared. The villagers, worried for his safety, prayed sincerely. Suddenly, the gates of Tanah Lot opened, revealing a secret passage to the ocean floor. Believing this to be the sea god’s guidance, the villagers passed through the passage and eventually found the fisherman in the depths. After returning to the village, the fisherman shared the beautiful sights he had seen underwater. Since then, Tanah Lot has been regarded as a sacred place connected to the underwater world.

Pura Tirta Empul is one of Bali’s six major temples and an important religious site. Hea You Mei Shi received a blessing from the sacred spring here, praying for good fortune and blessings.
Editor’s Note: Besides the well-known Pura Tirta Empul in Ubud, there are two other hidden sacred spring temples tucked away in quiet corners, all within close proximity, waiting to be discovered by explorers.
Here are two other sacred spring temples we recommend:
Dalem Pingit Sacred Spring is a relatively secluded temple. This temple not only boasts unique architectural styles but also has a sacred spring deeply revered by local devotees. Dalem Pingit is famous for its beautiful waterfall spring.
Pura Gunung Kawi Sacred Spring is a temple renowned for its rock carvings. In addition to ancient statues, there is also a hidden sacred spring where devotees and visitors can bathe to receive blessings.
These two different sacred spring temples each have their unique charm and cultural heritage, offering serene bathing environments where you can find peace and purification in Bali’s sacred atmosphere.
