Day 1: Canggu

Hea Travel & Food admired the stunning sea views at Tanah Lot and learned about the local religious culture.
Her first stop was Tanah Lot Temple in Canggu, Bali. Built on the coast, this temple is said to be the home of the sea god. She shared a folk tale about Tanah Lot: long ago, a fisherman went out to sea and encountered a fierce storm. His boat was swallowed by giant waves, and he went missing. Worried for his safety, the villagers prayed sincerely. Suddenly, the temple’s main gate opened, revealing a secret passage leading to the ocean floor. Believing this was a sign from the sea god, the villagers passed through the tunnel and eventually found the fisherman at the bottom of the sea. After returning to the village, the fisherman shared the beauty he had seen underwater. From then on, Tanah Lot Temple in Bali has been regarded as a sacred place connected to the underwater world.

Pura Tirta Empul, the Holy Water Temple, is one of the six most sacred temples in Bali and an important religious site. Hea Travel Food received a holy water blessing here, praying for good luck and blessings.
Editor’s note: In Ubud, besides the well-known Pura Tirta Empul, there are two other holy spring temples tucked away in quiet corners, all within easy reach, waiting for explorers to discover.
Here are two other holy spring temples we recommend:
Dalem Pingit Holy Spring is a relatively secluded temple. Not only does it feature unique architecture, but its sacred spring is also deeply revered by local devotees. Dalem Pingit is especially known for its beautiful waterfall-fed holy spring.
Pura Gunung Kawi Holy Spring is a temple renowned for its rock carvings. In addition to ancient statues, it also hides a sacred spring where devotees and visitors can bathe to receive blessings.
These two distinct holy spring temples each offer their own unique charm and cultural depth, while providing a relatively serene bathing environment where you can find peace and purification in Bali’s sacred atmosphere.
