【Six-Day Bali Family Trip】A Family of Six Returns to the Island of the Gods After 23 Years
💡 Quick Answer

I’ve benefited from this community, so here’s my contribution!

This summer, our family of six finally set foot on Bali again. It’s been 23 years since our last family trip here. This paradise, known as the ‘Island of the Gods,’ is still stunningly beautiful, though now it’s noticeably more crowded, and the tourism facilities are much richer and more diverse. Our family was very satisfied with this 6-day, 5-night independent trip to Bali. Below, I’ve compiled pre-departure preparations, an itinerary overview, and insights on our private driver and guide for your reference.

※ Pre-Departure Preparations

1. Flights

Eager to dive into the embrace of this paradise, we chose EVA Air’s direct flights (BR255/BR256), with a flight time of about 5.5 hours.

2. (Very Important!) Visa, Entry, and Related Applications

This includes the visa (eVOA/VOA), eCD electronic customs declaration, health information card (SSHP) (now integrated into AIAC), and the tourism levy.

Friendly Reminder (From Personal Experience):

For all online applications, it’s best to do them during Indonesian government office hours (daytime). The system runs smoother, and you’re less likely to run into weird technical glitches.

(1) Visa: eVOA / VOA

To save time upon arrival, I applied for an eVOA (electronic visa on arrival) before departure, so I could use the automated gates right after landing.

PS:

The visa is valid for 30 days. I recommend applying about 7 days before departure.

With an eVOA, you can use the automated gates. I always print a paper copy just in case.

(2) eCD Electronic Customs Declaration & SSHP Health Statement

PS: Save the QR Code on your phone or print a paper copy for inspection.

(3) Tourism Tax

  • Documents needed: Passport details, credit card
  • How to apply: Download the Love Bali App or visit https://lovebali.baliprov.go.id/home
  • Fee: IDR 150,000 per person (approx. USD$9)

PS: Again, keep the QR Code handy for inspection.

(4) US Dollar Exchange

It’s recommended to exchange US$100 bills in Taiwan before heading to Indonesia, as you’ll get a better exchange rate for Indonesian Rupiah. In Indonesia, the exchange rate depends on the bill denomination—$100 and $50 bills get the best rates, while $20, $10, $5, and $1 bills have less favorable rates.

※ Private Driver & Guide Experience

On this trip, I was incredibly lucky to meet Betty Pingky through a community recommendation. From pre-trip itinerary planning and hotel suggestions to professional guiding and warm companionship throughout the journey, she made everything feel reassuring and heartfelt.

※ 包車導遊心得

Sometimes, she even offered ‘one-person service, two-person care’—on two days, her husband Xiao Wu joined us, filling the trip with laughter.

One morning, our hotel didn’t provide breakfast, and we had an early start. Worried we’d go hungry, she proactively prepared breakfast for us. She truly treated us like family—it was so touching!

Day 1: Arrival in Bali → Jimbaran Beach Sunset & Seafood Dinner

Upon arrival in Bali, Betty was waiting at the airport with a sign, her warm smile instantly melting away the fatigue of the long flight. We first headed to the villa to drop off our luggage, then made a beeline for Jimbaran Beach. Twenty-three years had passed, yet Jimbaran’s sunset remained as breathtaking as ever, with rows of seafood barbecue stalls lining the sand and filling the air with tempting aromas. Dinner was at Malafi Cafe Jimbaran, where we enjoyed fresh seafood accompanied by a live band. The whole family sat together on the beach, toes in the sand, gazing at the orange-red sunset over the sea—a moment of pure bliss.
