Having benefited from the community, it’s time to give back!
This summer, our family of six finally returned to Bali. It had been 23 years since our last family trip here. Known as the ‘Island of the Gods,’ this vacation paradise remains as enchanting as ever, though the number of tourists has noticeably increased, and the tourism facilities have become more diverse and abundant. Our family was thoroughly satisfied with this 6-day, 5-night Bali trip. Below, we’ve compiled our pre-trip preparations, itinerary overview, and insights on hiring a private guide for your reference.
※ Pre-Trip Preparations
1. Air Tickets
Eager to immerse ourselves in this vacation paradise, we opted for a direct flight with EVA Air (BR255/BR256), which took approximately 5.5 hours.
2. (Very Important!) Visa, Entry, and Related Applications
Includes visa (eVOA/VOA), eCD electronic customs declaration, health information card (SSHP) (now integrated into AIAC), and tourism tax.
Pro Tip (From Personal Experience):
For all online applications, it’s best to operate during the Indonesian government’s regular working hours. The system runs more smoothly, and you’re less likely to encounter strange technical issues.
(1) Visa: eVOA / VOA
To save time upon arrival, I chose to apply for the eVOA (electronic Visa on Arrival) before departure. This allows you to go directly through the automated immigration gates after landing.
- Required documents: Scanned passport page (JPG/PDF), passport photo (JPG), accommodation address, flight information, credit card
- Cost: IDR 500,000 per person (approx. USD$31)
- Official application website: https://evisa.imigrasi.go.id/ <--- Only official link
- Application guide: Many tutorial articles are available in the community, such as 【2026 Edition】Using the ‘All Indonesia’ Arrival Card for Bali Entry|1-Minute Guide to the Latest Process: From Landing → Customs → Baggage Claim
PS:
The visa is valid for 30 days. It’s recommended to apply about 7 days before departure.
With eVOA, you can use the automated gates. I usually print a copy as backup.
(2) eCD Electronic Customs Declaration & SSHP Health Declaration
- Required documents: Passport details, eVOA number, flight and accommodation information
- Application website: ‘All Indonesia’ integrated arrival system https://allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id/
- Cost: Free
- Tutorial reference: 【2026 Edition】Using the ‘All Indonesia’ Arrival Card for Bali Entry|1-Minute Guide to the Latest Process: From Landing → Customs → Baggage Claim
PS: Please save the QR code on your phone or print a copy for verification.
(3) Tourism Tax
- Required documents: Passport information, credit card
- Application method: Download the Love Bali App or visit https://lovebali.baliprov.go.id/home
- Fee: IDR 150,000 per person (approx. USD$9)
PS: Similarly, please save the QR code for verification.
(4) Currency Exchange
It’s recommended to exchange USD$100 in Taiwan first, then convert it to Indonesian Rupiah in Indonesia for better rates. Local exchange rates vary based on USD denominations—$100 and $50 bills get the best rates, while $20, $10, $5, and $1 bills may have less favorable rates.

※ Private Driver Guide Experience
For this trip, we were fortunate to meet Betty Pingky through a group recommendation. From pre-trip itinerary planning and hotel suggestions to professional guidance and thoughtful companionship during the journey, she made everything feel safe and warm.

Sometimes, she even provided “one-person service with two-person care,” as her husband Xiao Wu joined us for two days, filling the trip with laughter.
On one day when the hotel didn’t provide breakfast and we had an early start, she worried we’d go hungry and proactively prepared breakfast for us. She truly treated us like family—it was heartwarming!
