When “Brunch” Meets Bali Time
Honestly, when I first saw that “Brisa Brunch” runs from 12 PM to 4 PM, I couldn’t help but laugh. This isn’t just brunch; it’s a Bali-style lazy feast! A local friend winked and said, “In Bali, time is meant to be enjoyed, not rushed.”
KLOOK’s newly launched Dining Experience at Alila Villas Uluwatu allows ordinary folks like us, who can’t afford to stay at Alila, to indulge in luxury. So, we booked a 1 PM seat, planning to savor this culinary journey throughout the afternoon.
A Seafood Lover’s Paradise
Starting with the seafood section was definitely a wise choice. The crystal-clear Tuna Crudo glistened like gemstones under the sunlight, and the moment lime juice was drizzled over it, I could almost hear the ocean sigh. The Jimbaran Shrimp carried the familiar aroma of Balinese charcoal grilling, reminding me of the sunset barbecue stalls at Jimbaran Beach, but with plating ten times more exquisite. The most surprising dish was the octopus, impossibly tender, paired with a smoked paprika sauce that had our French tablemate exclaiming “C’est magnifique!” three times. As we feasted, a live saxophonist began playing, blending lazy jazz melodies with the sound of waves, adding a romantic touch to the seafood feast.
The Chef’s Hidden Gem
Just when we thought we had explored all the dishes, the waiter mysteriously handed us a handwritten card: “Today, the chef has specially prepared a mini Padang beef burger, not on the menu.” This Indonesian classic was deconstructed into a three-layer mini feast: beef braised for 36 hours, caramelized shallots, and homemade sambal, sandwiched in a charcoal bun. I secretly observed that almost every guest squinted their eyes upon taking the first bite—a natural reaction when taste buds encounter a delightful surprise.

The Pastry Chef’s Prank
The dessert section resembles a modern art exhibition, especially the ‘Shattered Chocolate Sphere’. The waiter pours hot passion fruit sauce over it, causing the chocolate shell to crack like molten lava, revealing coconut ice cream and tropical fruits inside. The kids at the next table were utterly mesmerized, forgetting even their mobile games. My personal favorite is the pandan tiramisu—a rebellious blend of Southeast Asian herbs and Italian dessert flavors.
Digesting by the Cliff
The most luxurious part after a hearty meal is lounging on the ocean-facing sofa, letting the Indian Ocean breeze carry away the fullness. The waiter thoughtfully adjusts the sunshade angle and brings chilled towels and ginger tea. We lingered from midday till sunset, watching the minimalist lines of CIRE Restaurant gradually gilded by the golden hour, with champagne glasses reflecting Bali’s twilight.
On the ride back, I kept reminiscing about the sunset and the sound of the waves, suddenly understanding why people say, ‘In Bali, the best seasoning is always the view.’
