Before answering this frequently asked question in our two Facebook groups ‘Bali/Indonesia Food and Travel’ and ‘Go Bali Go Bali Travel’, let’s quickly understand with a chart:

When interpreting the data in this chart, please note the following points:
Average Chance of Rain
“Average Chance of Rain” refers to the likelihood of rainfall occurring in a specific area and time frame, usually expressed as a percentage. For example, if the forecast predicts a 30% chance of rain in a certain area, it means that under similar conditions, it has rained 30% of the time in the past. It’s important to note that the chance of rain does not indicate the duration or intensity of the rainfall, nor does it mean that it will rain 30% of the time in that area. When interpreting the chance of rain, understand that it only represents the possibility of precipitation occurring, and is not related to the amount of rainfall.
Rainy Days
“Rainy Days” refers to the number of days in which at least one rainfall event occurs. Typically, if the daily rainfall reaches 0.1 millimeters or more, it is considered a rainy day. Therefore, the number of rainy days is the total count of days with rainfall over a certain period. It’s important to note that the number of rainy days does not reflect the intensity or duration of the rainfall. For example, if a place experiences rainfall on 5 days in a month, with each day’s rainfall exceeding 0.1 millimeters, then the number of rainy days for that month is 5.
Explanation of Temperature
“Average temperature” refers to the actual measured air temperature, while “feels like temperature” is how hot or cold the human body perceives it to be, influenced by humidity, wind speed, and sunlight. For example, at the same 30°C, higher humidity makes it feel more stifling, while wind makes it feel cooler.

Travel Suitability Index
“Travel Suitability Index” is a comprehensive assessment based on factors such as the probability of rain, number of rainy days, average temperature, and the number of tourists on the island. A higher score indicates more stable weather, fewer tourists, and better conditions for outdoor activities. For example, June and September have an index of 100%, representing dry weather with little rain, comfortable climate, and fewer tourists, making them the best times to visit. On the other hand, December has an index of only 50% due to frequent rain and a surge in tourists during the Christmas holidays, making indoor activities more recommended. This index helps travelers quickly determine whether the weather and crowd levels are ideal for their visit.

It Usually Doesn’t Rain All Over the Island
In Bali, rainfall distribution is influenced by topography, with eastern and northern regions experiencing more rain, and mountainous areas being wetter than lowlands. Therefore, even during the rainy season, some areas may enjoy sunny weather while others experience rain. It is very rare for the entire island to be rainy simultaneously.
What is a Rainy Season Backup Plan?
“Rainy Day Backup Plans” refer to alternative activities you can quickly switch to when outdoor plans are disrupted by rain. Check out our collection of 60 Rainy Day Activities in Bali for inspiration.
