Those who apply for e-visas online in advance can now use the automated immigration system!
Bali Airport to launch automated immigration system soon
Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali has recently completed a major upgrade and will launch an automated immigration system equipped with facial recognition technology.
This system has been in operation at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital, for over a year with great success, eliminating the long queues previously seen at immigration stamping counters.

Both Jakarta and Bali are adopting the same system to expedite immigration clearance
Starting January 2024, Bali will also implement this automated immigration system. It is expected to add 50 more automated gate units within a few months, bringing the total to 80 units in the international terminal for faster passenger clearance (50-60 gates for arrivals/entry; 20 gates for departures/exit).
Apply for visas online to simplify the entry process
Starting from 2024, Indonesia will encourage tourists planning to visit Bali to use online immigration services. Visitors can apply for various Indonesian visas online and also handle visa extension procedures digitally, eliminating the need to visit immigration offices in person!
The following visa categories can now be extended online:
- Single-entry visitor visas for vacation, family visits, and transit
- Single-entry visitor visas for medical treatment
- Single-entry visitor visas for foreign government officials
- Single-entry visitor visas for short-term courses and training
- Single-entry visitor visas for international exhibitions

Use facial recognition for automatic immigration clearance, with almost no queuing required
So starting from 2024, getting an electronic visa-on-arrival (VoA) in advance not only saves you from queuing for VoA processing but also eliminates waiting in immigration lines for stamping! The time saved allows you to fully enjoy Bali!
