Whenever friends ask me to recommend a place near Ubud town where they can experience Ubud’s natural beauty, should I suggest Tegalalang rice terraces? No, that place has become far too commercialized in recent years! Instead, let me recommend an easily accessible walking trail known as the ‘Ubud Skywalk’ - Campuhan Ridge Walk.
First, there are many incorrect transliterations of the name ‘Campuhan’ online. In Indonesian pronunciation, it’s closer to ‘Jampuhan’. ‘Ridge Walk’ refers to a specific type of hiking or walking activity, typically conducted along a mountain ridge or crest. This kind of walk usually follows the ridgeline or top of the ridge, allowing participants to enjoy spectacular views on both sides.
Today, we’re introducing Campuhan Ridge Walk, a hidden treasure near Ubud’s center that offers nature’s tranquility and beautiful scenery. Located along a ridge, this trail provides stunning 360-degree panoramic views, far from the city’s hustle and bustle. Unlike Tegalalang rice terraces, which have been heavily commercialized, here you can truly appreciate nature’s beauty.

How to get to Ubud Skywalk?
You’d think such a peaceful place would be far from the bustling commercial area! Surprisingly, Campuhan Ridge Walk is only 640 meters (about a 10-minute walk) from Starbucks at Ubud Water Palace. Along the way to the trail entrance, you’ll pass museums, small shops in the commercial district, and even a magical section that feels like traveling through time:

How long does the Ubud Skywalk take?
The Campuhan Ridge Walk, from the entrance shown on the map above to the end of the ridge, takes about 20 to 30 minutes one way if you don’t stop. You can continue walking for another 5 to 10 minutes to reach Karsa Kafe and other small eateries in the area for a coffee or snack.
If you stop to admire the scenery or take photos along the way, it may take longer. Keep in mind that this is the one-way time, and you’ll need to retrace your steps! If you plan to include this journey in your itinerary, you should allocate at least 2 to 2.5 hours.
Best Time to Visit the Ubud Skywalk
The Campuhan Ridge Walk is best started as early as possible at sunrise. Since the trail is located on a ridge with little shade, it can get quite hot quickly. We recommend starting between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM, or even better, begin your morning walk before the sun rises!
You can also choose to do this walk just before sunset. Although it starts off quite hot, the temperature becomes very pleasant by the end, which is also a great option.
We don’t recommend doing the Campuhan Ridge Walk in the afternoon or evening. During the day, it can get uncomfortably hot with little shade from the sun. At night, there is no lighting, you’ll miss all the beautiful views, and the walk becomes more challenging.
Is there an entrance fee for the Ubud Skywalk?
The Campuhan Ridge Walk is a free hiking trail that doesn’t require any entrance fee. Visitors can freely access and enjoy this beautiful natural path, exploring the scenic views and ridge landscapes of the Ubud area without incurring additional costs. Remember to respect the local environment, keep the trail clean, and adhere to local regulations.
