Bottom Line First: The Varuna Show, an underwater theater performance that sparked buzz upon its 2025 debut, is located at Marine Safari Bali in Gianyar. Together with the adjacent Bali Safari Park, they form ‘Bali Safari and Marine Park’ (one destination, two worlds), perfect for a day trip combining a land zoo and an underwater theater experience.
On this Bali trip, nothing left a deeper impression than experiencing the Varuna Show at Marine Safari Bali! This underwater theater, blending magic, lights, and acrobatics, completely redefined my expectations of marine park performances.
It made waves right after its 2025 opening, even featured by Indonesia’s Time magazine.
🚗 Transport & Entry
Located in Gianyar, Marine Safari Bali sits right next to the famous Bali Safari Park. The two parks are now collectively called ‘Bali Safari and Marine Park’, as the official tagline goes: ‘One Destination, Two Worlds’.
Since the location isn’t in a busy area, I recommend taking a private car to get there. The park is bigger than I imagined, and as soon as you walk in, you’re swept up by the tropical landscaping and cheerful atmosphere. We bought the Day Varuna Premium package in advance on Klook. Although it wasn’t cheap, it was absolutely worth every penny!
🍽 Surprises at the Underwater-Themed Restaurant
The package includes lunch at a meticulously designed ‘Underwater World’ themed restaurant. The entire space is bathed in blue tones, with walls adorned with coral, seaweed, and other ocean elements, paired with special lighting effects that make you feel like you’re dining in an underwater palace. The meal is a refined Western-style set menu, and we especially recommend their Balinese specialty drinks. The kids couldn’t get enough of the adorable desserts either.
🎭 Varuna Show: A Spectacular Debut
Our Premium seats were in the central area, offering an excellent view. As the lights dimmed, the entire theater instantly transformed into a vast underwater world.
The performance centered on the adventurous tale of Varuna, the guardian of the deep sea, with the most breathtaking moments coming from the meticulously designed stage effects:
- Water curtain projections created illusions of the deep ocean
- Acrobats gracefully ‘danced underwater’ (achieved through special costumes and lighting effects)
- Stage mechanisms seamlessly shifted scenes, from coral reefs to deep-sea canyons in one fluid motion
- Surround sound made you feel completely immersed
📸 Photo Ops with the Performers
After the show, the staff guided us to a photo area. The kids were thrilled to pose with performers in their dazzling costumes—these photos became some of our most treasured souvenirs from the trip.

- Jungle Odyssey: Get up close with wildlife (takes about an hour; we recommend entering right when it opens to avoid crowds and get great photos)
- Fun Zone: A variety of rides for both adults and kids to enjoy together
- Sea Lion & Dolphin Show: Highly interactive (3:00 PM)
- Pachamaya Fire Show: A primal, powerful performance (12:00 PM & 3:30 PM)

💡 Practical Tips
- Buy Varuna Show tickets on Klook — park entry is already included
- Premium seats are worth the investment; the viewing experience is much better, the meal is quite good, and there are plenty of shows/experiences included in the package
- Park hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Arrive early to explore, take the tram tour, and enjoy the Fun Zone rides
- The show starts at 12:30 PM, so you can enter early to pick your seats
- Photography is not allowed during the performance, but there’s plenty of time for photos afterward
- Lockers are available for storing your belongings
