While there are many ocean-facing hotels in Uluwatu, Bali, only this one literally lets you ‘live on the edge of the cliff.’

Le Cliff Bali is nestled between the rocky cliffs of Uluwatu, facing the famous surf spot of Padang Padang. Open your door to endless ocean views, and from your bed, you can see the entire horizon. This isn’t a hotel where you pay extra for an ocean view—every room here faces the sea. Averaging around $223 per night, it’s slightly more expensive than Bali’s average accommodations, but the view is an experience money can’t buy.

📍 Location & Surroundings
The hotel is located on Jalan Labuan Sait, the heart of Uluwatu. From the parking lot, it’s about a 200-step stone staircase down to the main accommodation. More on this later—first, let’s talk about the surroundings.
Within walking distance is Padang Padang Beach, one of Uluwatu’s most famous small beaches, known for its unique rock formations, great for snorkeling and photography. Uluwatu Temple is about a 15-minute drive away, and I highly recommend catching the Kecak fire dance in the evening. Pandawa Beach is also a short drive away.
There are plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby: Single Fin Bali is famous for its sunset views across Bali, Ulu Garden serves excellent Indonesian cuisine, and Suka Espresso is perfect for a morning coffee. Surfing lessons are also available within walking distance. Overall, the area is lively, but the hotel itself feels like a secluded cliffside paradise.
🏨 Facilities Overview
As you descend the 200-plus stone steps from the parking lot, you might question your life choices—but when the entire Indian Ocean unfolds before you, all complaints will likely vanish.

The hotel is small, with only 10 rooms, following a boutique-style accommodation approach. The public spaces are built right against the cliffside, featuring outdoor terraces and rope beds on the rocks for lounging by the sea. Guests have mentioned a rope-suspended sunbed hanging directly above the ocean as one of the most memorable design features here.
The restaurant offers simple Indonesian and Western dishes, with breakfast available as an add-on or included in certain room types. Some guests have noted inconsistent meal quality, suggesting heading to nearby restaurants for breakfast. Room service is available, but if you’re too lazy to go down, watch out for the monkeys—they really do steal (more on that later).
The Wi-Fi signal is weaker at the base of the cliff, which isn’t surprising, so be mentally prepared. On-site motorbike rentals are available, making it very convenient to explore the surrounding area.
🛏️ Room Types

Room types are divided into several categories: the basic Deluxe Double Room, the Deluxe Double with Balcony, and the sea-view rooms. All rooms face the sea, differing mainly in balcony size and viewing angles.
The rooms feature Balinese wooden decor, equipped with air conditioning, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, tea/coffee making facilities, safes, and shower rooms. Overall, they are clean and tidy, though the decor feels a bit dated, lacking the refined touch of newer hotels.
Space is generally reported to be on the smaller side, so if you’re traveling as a couple with lots of luggage, it might feel a bit cramped. Some rooms may also have privacy issues due to overlooking balconies above, so pay attention when selecting your room.
👥 Ideal Guests
Perfect for surfers and sunset photography enthusiasts—the hotel is right next to Padang Padang surf spot, making it easy to hit the waves directly from the shore. It’s also ideal for travelers seeking a ‘non-typical Bali experience’ or honeymooners craving seclusion. Not suitable for families with young children, those with knee problems, or mobility-impaired guests—the hotel officially advises against stays for children under 15, as the stairs are truly formidable.
💬 Guest Reviews
“The room views are breathtaking, and you can hear the waves crashing against the rocks morning and night. The staff are incredibly friendly, with porters helping with luggage up and down, but be mentally prepared for the physical exertion of climbing those stairs.” (Source: Tripadvisor ⭐ Highly Recommended)
“Once you check in, you won’t want to leave. Lying in bed, you can see the entire horizon, and the sunset shines directly through the windows. Just be cautious with monkeys—they’re quite bold, and food left on the balcony will be snatched quickly.” (Source: Agoda ⭐ 8.5)

⚠️ Must-Know Before Checking In
Here are a few things you need to be aware of:
- The stone stairs are a serious issue: Someone counted over 200 irregular rock steps from the parking lot to the rooms. Travel light or arrange in advance via WhatsApp for porter assistance (additional fees apply).
- The monkeys are fierce: Monkeys in this area are accustomed to snatching items from people, so be extra careful when eating with windows open on the balcony.
- Parking is currently limited: Due to nearby temple land, it’s recommended to arrive by bike or motorbike. If driving, you may need to park on the main road and walk.
- Check-in time is 15:00–12:00 the next day, so contact the hotel in advance if you need to extend your stay.
