Bali’s Uluwatu Bingin Beach, a favorite among tourists and surfers, is set for major changes. The government announced that over 40 structures in the area, due to illegal land occupation and violation of spatial planning regulations, will be forcibly demolished starting July 21, 2025.
Businesses in the Bingin area have been receiving official notices from Bali’s Badung regional government over the past two months, demanding improvements to building structures and land use practices. However, the government ultimately determined that most buildings did not comply with regulations and decided to proceed with legal action.
Satpol PP (Bali Civil Police) stated that investigations revealed most structures were illegally built without proper permits, with some even occupying state-owned land.
Badung Regional Head Adi Arnawa emphasized that residents and business owners were well aware these structures were built on non-private land and must take responsibility for the consequences. He stressed the government’s firm stance to fully implement demolition recommendations based on provincial and Satpol PP investigations.
He also urged the public to refrain from unnecessary interference or inciting opposition, stating, “Our community clearly understands what land they were using. Now it’s just about returning the land to its proper use.”

An anonymous Bingin Beach business owner lamented that the area was once just a fishing village, and significant resources were invested in developing facilities as tourism grew. He expressed frustration, “If we were violating regulations, why didn’t the government stop us over the past 30 years? Now that everything is being demolished, shouldn’t the government also reflect on its actions?”
Currently, 45 structures including guesthouses, restaurants, tourist facilities, and beach villas are affected by the demolition. Violations include illegal land occupation, breaches of environmental and spatial use regulations, and impacts on natural landscape conservation areas.
