✈️ Bali Six-Day, Five-Night Self-Guided Trip Journal (June 22–27)

This trip was truly a long-awaited time for just the two of us! 👫

After leaving our child with grandma, my wife and I packed our bags almost impatiently, ready to board the flight to Bali. For parents who haven’t had a break abroad in a while, this relaxing vacation felt especially precious, and our excitement was through the roof.

📌 Practical Tips: Three Online Procedures to Complete Before Departure

Before this trip, we followed advice from many travel experts and applied for Indonesia’s e-VOA (Electronic Visa on Arrival) in advance. I honestly think this step is super important—it can save you a lot of precious waiting time.

However, here’s a little trap to watch out for: my wife accidentally entered the wrong birth date when filling out the e-VOA 😓. As a result, she had to go through the manual visa-on-arrival counter and ended up waiting in line for an hour and a half—so regretful!

Besides the visa, there are two other online procedures that are also important. I recommend handling them before boarding to avoid any last-minute hassle upon arrival:

All Indonesia Arrival Card (including e-CD Customs Declaration and SSHP Health Statement)
Tourist Levy Payment Receipt

All four steps are digital documents that can be completed online, and they’re actually quite straightforward—just make sure you have a copy of your passport, flight details, and a payment method ready. Once done, I recommend saving the QR codes as screenshots in your phone album; presenting them for scanning at immigration will speed things up significantly. 🌅 Day 1: Arriving in Bali, Checking into the Dreamy AYANA Resort

We caught the 9:50 AM direct flight with EVA Air, scheduled to land in Bali at 3:30 PM. The flight was a bit long, but a quick nap on the plane had me already switching into vacation mode.

After arriving at Ngurah Rai International Airport, we queued for the manual visa process, and by the time we cleared customs, it was already getting dark. We hopped into our pre-booked transfer and arrived at AYANA Resort and Spa Bali in Jimbaran around 6 PM.

🏨 AYANA Resort Is Worth Two Nights!

This hotel was hands-down the highlight we were most excited about! AYANA is one of Bali’s most renowned resorts, boasting top-notch facilities, stunning ocean views, and a variety of signature restaurants. The absolute must-visit is the legendary Rock Bar Bali—a wildly popular photo spot hailed as one of the ‘World’s Top 10 Sunset Bars.’

Although we arrived a bit late and missed the sunset, only catching the night view, standing at the cliffside bar area, listening to the waves and watching the lights sway, the atmosphere was incredibly romantic 💫. The food itself was decent, though a bit pricey—but what you’re really paying for here isn’t the meal, it’s that magical vibe of dancing with the sea and sky.

We stayed in a sea-view room, which cost about USD$387 per night. While it was already quite nice, here’s a little tip: the AYANA resort complex is enormous. If you choose a more budget-friendly room, you might end up in a remote area, and walking to the main facilities could leave your legs exhausted. I’d recommend adding a bit more to your budget and picking a room closer to the main facilities for a better experience!

📸 Day 2: Wake Up Early to Snap Photos at the Famous H2O Pool!

To capture those dreamy pool photos you see on Instagram, we woke up at 7 AM the next day and took the hotel shuttle to AYANA Resort’s most iconic H2O Infinity Pool. The crowd for photos was already gathering early in the morning—you have to queue, and each person gets just one minute for a quick snap. But the good news is—you can line up again! 📷

We went round after round, just to catch those perfect moments with the sunlight hitting just right (laughs). Waking up early was totally worth it!

🍽 Eat a Hearty Breakfast and Skip Lunch

For breakfast, we chose the buffet restaurant near the AYANA lobby. Although it was a bit pricey—about USD$30 per person—the options were incredibly diverse, featuring Indonesian local dishes, Japanese cuisine, European cold cuts, and even made-to-order omelets, bread, and desserts. It was truly generous. After eating our fill, we couldn’t even manage lunch, saving us a meal’s budget 😂

A little side note: we left a $2 tip while housekeeping was cleaning, and when we returned to the room in the afternoon, the housekeeping lady had quietly prepared a small surprise—thoughtful and heartwarming, fully capturing AYANA’s spirit of service. In contrast, last time in Chiang Mai, a friend left a $10 tip and got nothing in return. Guess luck is a kind of skill too 😆

🌌 The Cave: A Dream Dinner You Must Experience Once in a Lifetime

That evening, we booked the ultra-popular The Cave by Chef Ryan Clift, a fine dining restaurant set inside a real natural limestone cave. We almost arrived late due to traffic, but luckily our thoughtful driver contacted the restaurant in advance, and we made it just in time at 18:00!

The entire dining experience was a feast for the senses—beyond the exquisite and delicious cuisine, there was a stunning light show and music, making a meal in a cave feel both stylish and romantic. The atmosphere was truly unmatched, and I highly recommend couples to experience it at least once ❤️

☕️ Day 3: Heading to the Highland Café, Checking into a Romantic Jungle Villa in Ubud

After a hearty breakfast and a leisurely morning at AYANA, we checked out at 11:00 AM, ready to embark on the ‘mountain chapter’ of our journey 🌿.

🚗 A Long Drive for a Cup of Coffee and Breathtaking Views

Our first stop of the day was a scenic café highly recommended by my cousin — Montana Del Café, located in the high-altitude Kintamani region of northern Bali. The drive from AYANA in Jimbaran took a whopping two and a half hours one way, a true journey over hills and mountains.

But I have to say, it was totally worth it once we arrived! Montana Del Café boasts sweeping mountain views, with the majestic Mount Batur and its lake in the distance. Whether you sit indoors or on the terrace, it’s like a postcard come to life 📸. We ordered two coffees and two slices of cheesecake, costing around USD$16 in total — quite reasonable for a scenic café. The real treasure was that feeling of sipping coffee above the clouds — absolutely priceless ✨

If you love photography or crave fresh mountain air, I highly recommend adding this to your itinerary. Just be mindful of the long travel time, and ask your driver if you can pair it with other Ubud attractions along the way, like volcanic hot springs, for a more efficient route.

Leaving the tranquil Ubud highlands behind, we headed to the lively beach area—Seminyak. This is Bali’s trendy district, packed with restaurants, bars, boutique shops, and Instagram-worthy cafes. It’s super convenient and perfect for travelers who want a city-resort vibe.

That night, we stayed at The Claremont Luxury Villas, right in the heart of Seminyak. The value for money here is incredible—around USD$148 per night—yet the space is spacious, fully equipped, and comes with a private pool! 🎉 Day 5: Pilgrimage to Finns Beach Club – Worth Being a Splurger for a Day!

Having visited Bali many times, we finally made it to the much-anticipated Finns Beach Club! As one of Bali’s most iconic beach clubs, it’s located in the Canggu area. The venue stretches out to the beach, featuring multiple pools, sun loungers, bars, a DJ stage, and VIP cabanas. The vibe is lively and absolutely buzzing.

That said, online reviews are really mixed—some people find the staff attitude cold and the prices steep, while many others think the atmosphere is great, the facilities are awesome, and it’s worth a visit.

From our own experience—if you just order the cheapest sunbed package, you really do get overlooked; but this time, we splurged and upgraded to a VIP sofa cabana package. While it cost a pretty penny for the whole day, the treatment we received was completely different! ✨

💡 The key to getting good service really is ‘spending your money in the right places’! When you choose a high-end cabana, the security, servers, and even dancers will proactively come over to greet and interact with you, instantly elevating the vibe to something like a private party.

The group next to us was also in the cabana area, but they probably didn’t order much or engage much, and they were almost entirely ignored throughout the day—even the dancers walked right past without a glance 😅 So, if you want to have a blast at Finns, you’ve got to be a splurger for a day (the happy kind) to truly experience its charm!

🛫 Day 6: Bittersweet Goodbyes, Heading Home

Our short six-day, five-night Bali trip came to an end. After checking out at 12:00 PM, we took a car to Ngurah Rai Airport to fly home. Although our flight was scheduled for 4:30 PM, we ran into an airline scheduling delay that day, and we didn’t land in Taiwan until 11:00 PM—hours later than expected, leaving us utterly exhausted.

But hey, that’s travel—unexpected hiccups are part of the journey. What matters is the memories we made, and they’re totally worth it! 🎒

These two local ride-hailing apps let you pay by credit card, with transparent pricing and peace of mind. We once made the mistake of hailing a motorbike on the street for convenience, and got totally ripped off—they quoted us in US dollars with an inflated price, acting like it was totally normal 😓. Don’t try to save a little and end up losing big.

🚦 3. Traffic jams are the norm in Bali—don’t overpack your itinerary!

Especially the stretches from Jimbaran and Seminyak to Ubud often get congested. I highly recommend planning just 1–2 key activities per day, otherwise you’ll spend the whole trip feeling like you’re ‘missing out’ and it’ll be exhausting.

💵 4. Tipping is fine, but don’t let yourself be guilt-tripped into it!

Over 75% of Bali’s population works in the service industry, so tipping moderately is a gesture of courtesy and support. However, you may encounter people who use verbal manipulation or act entitled to tips. In such cases, you really don’t need to force yourself to tip—maintaining your boundaries and self-respect is more important.

🐰 5. Gold Rabbit Coffee Plantation? Google it yourself before deciding whether to go!

If you book a private driver or guided tour, you’ll often be ‘conveniently taken’ to this coffee plantation. These places mainly sell overpriced civet coffee, sometimes with high-pressure sales tactics or scripted presentations. Whether it’s worth visiting is for you to decide 🧐

From the laid-back beaches of Jimbaran, to the jungle villas of Ubud, to the trendy buzz of Seminyak, every day of this trip was filled with surprises and beautiful scenery. There were a few hiccups along the way, but it’s exactly those ups and downs that make a journey more memorable.
