✈️ Anak Krakatau Volcano Erupts! 17 Flights Affected at Bali Airport
Today’s biggest travel news in Indonesia is the eruption of Anak Krakatau (Child of Krakatau) Volcano.
As volcanic ash spread, multiple airports across Indonesia were affected, including Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport; Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport also saw disruptions today.
According to NusaBali, a total of 17 flights at Bali’s airport were affected by the Anak Krakatau eruption.
More notably, international flights have also been impacted in a chain reaction. Reuters reports that volcanic ash has caused several Indonesian airports to suspend flights, affecting at least 301 flights, including 58 international ones.
Currently, there is no evidence that Bali itself faces a direct threat from the volcanic eruption.
What you really need to pay attention to is:
If your flight is between Bali and Jakarta/other Indonesian cities, or requires a transit through Jakarta, be sure to reconfirm your flight status before departure tomorrow.
Especially since airlines may experience delays or cancellations due to the impact on previous flights.
🌋 Mount Ijen Remains Closed! Suspended Until Further Notice After Forest Fire
Mount Ijen (Kawah Ijen) is still closed.
The East Java Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BBKSDA Jawa Timur) has suspended all tourism activities at Ijen Crater Nature Tourism Park due to forest and land fires in the Ijen area.
And it’s not just a matter of ‘certain hours being off-limits’—it’s:
Suspended until further notice.
Mount Ijen is famous for its blue fire and turquoise volcanic lake, and it’s a popular cross-island destination for many Taiwanese travelers heading from Bali to Banyuwangi.
So if you have plans coming up:
Bali → Gilimanuk → Ketapang → Banyuwangi → Ijen Crater
You must cancel or change your Ijen itinerary for now.

🏔️ Mount Agong Hiking Accident! Teenager Rescued After Falling into Ravine
Bali’s highest peak, Mount Agung (Gunung Agung), saw a hiking accident today.
A young hiker slipped and fell into a ravine while climbing Gunung Agung, prompting a rescue operation by the search and rescue team.
Basarnas Karangasem dispatched rescue personnel to the scene today and successfully evacuated the injured hiker.
This incident serves as a reminder for travelers planning to hike:
Gunung Agung is not a typical tourist attraction.
The mountainous terrain, weather conditions, and certain sections of the trail are quite challenging. If you have no hiking experience, it’s not recommended to attempt it on your own.
Especially since Bali is still in the dry season, mountain weather and ground conditions can change quickly.
If you want to climb Agung, it’s best to arrange it through a licensed local guide who knows the route well.

Tourism data for Karangasem in eastern Bali has been released.
So far this year, Karangasem has welcomed approximately 688,000 visitors, with the most popular attraction being the famous Tirta Gangga Water Palace.
Besides Tirta Gangga, Karangasem also boasts:
Lempuyang Temple, Candidasa, Amed, Tenganan
and other popular spots.
This data is actually worth noting.
In the past, many first-time visitors to Bali concentrated their itineraries almost entirely in Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Ubud, and Uluwatu.
But in recent years, the visibility of East Bali has noticeably increased.
If you’ve already visited South Bali several times, I’d actually recommend adding Karangasem + Amed to your next trip—the tourist density is usually much more comfortable than the popular southern areas.

It’s advisable to check road conditions in advance and allow extra time for detours.
