This new system was officially announced today and goes into effect tomorrow.

🌊 Nusa Penida’s Waves Could Generate 50MW! A Renewable Energy Plan Under Study
The Bali government is researching a rather unique energy project.
Bali Governor Wayan Koster stated that the wave energy potential around Nusa Penida could reach at least 50MW (50,000 kilowatts).
The research is currently being conducted by Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and several universities in Bali, primarily to assess whether wave energy is feasible for actual development and commercial use.
Interestingly, Nusa Penida’s current electricity demand is about 24MW.
If the 50MW potential is confirmed to be effectively developable through research, it could theoretically not only supply Nusa Penida but also have the opportunity to transmit surplus power to the main island of Bali.
This project is still in the research phase and is not a power plant that has already begun construction.
However, for Nusa Penida, if it can truly harness renewable energy sources like wave and solar power on a large scale in the future, it could reduce the island’s reliance on traditional fossil fuels.
✈️ Bali Hopes to Expand Visa-Free Countries! But No Official List Yet
The Bali provincial government stated today that it is positive about the central Indonesian government’s ongoing study into expanding the list of visa-free entry countries.
The Bali Tourism Office said that adding visa-free countries can lower the entry barrier for foreign travelers visiting Bali, helping sustain the growth of international tourist arrivals.
However, a key note:
No new visa-free country list has been officially announced yet.
The relevant proposal is still under discussion among Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism, Immigration and Corrections, and other agencies, with the central government still gathering input from various parties.
The Bali provincial government also emphasized that granting visa-free treatment cannot be based solely on ‘convenience’—it also requires consideration of:
- National security
- Passenger safety
- Economic benefits
- Tourism industry demands
So when you see news about ‘Indonesia preparing to add visa-free countries,’ don’t interpret it as Taiwan passports already being visa-free.
Currently, the visa regulations for Taiwanese travelers to Indonesia have not changed immediately due to this discussion.
