Bali’s Nusa Penida Charges Again! Tickets Now Required at Popular Beaches and Attractions from August 12

If you’re planning a day trip to Nusa Penida soon, remember to factor this cost into your budget.

Originally set for August 12, 2026, the new Nusa Penida attraction fee system has been postponed to September 1, 2026. Starting then, Nusa Penida will implement a ‘One Gate One Destination’ (OGOD) fee system. In addition to the existing island entry fee, you’ll need to purchase separate tickets to visit popular beaches and viewpoints.

Each Attraction Requires a Separate Fee

These new attraction tickets are not just for foreign tourists—all visitors must pay.

The announced prices are:

• Adults: 25,000 Indonesian Rupiah
• Children: 15,000 Indonesian Rupiah

And this fee is collected at each individual attraction, not a single payment that covers all of them.

The attractions included in the first phase are:

Broken Beach, Angel’s Billabong, Bukit Teletubbies, Devil’s Tears, Crystal Bay, Kelingking Beach, and Molenteng Viewpoint.

That means if you plan to visit three spots in one day—Kelingking Beach, Broken Beach, and Angel’s Billabong—adults may need to pay 75,000 Indonesian Rupiah just for entrance fees.

Easy to Confuse: This Is Not the Same as the Nusa Penida Entry Fee

The key thing to note here is that Nusa Penida now has two different types of fees.

The first is the Nusa Penida island tourism fee, currently charged mainly to foreign tourists upon arrival on the island.

The second is this newly introduced attraction entrance fee, which both Indonesians and foreign tourists must pay, and it’s calculated separately for each site.

So if a travel agency or driver tells you, ‘The Nusa Penida fee has already been paid,’ that doesn’t mean all attraction tickets are included.

Why Was This Fee Introduced?

Local authorities stated that this system aims not only to make attraction fees more transparent but also to channel the revenue into tourism facilities and infrastructure on Nusa Penida.

Fees for attractions will be collected by local residents under the coordination of traditional villages (Desa Adat), and currently adopt cashless payment. Facilities such as ticket booths and restrooms at some attractions have already begun construction.

The Klungkung Regency government estimates that after the new system is implemented, the tourism revenue target for 2026 is approximately 132 billion Indonesian Rupiah, with plans to allocate part of the revenue to attraction maintenance and infrastructure.

How to Budget for Nusa Penida Now?

If it’s your first time, I’d suggest not just focusing on ferry tickets, private car hire, and snorkeling costs.

For example, a classic one-day tour of West Nusa Penida often includes:

Kelingking Beach → Broken Beach → Angel’s Billabong

For just these three attractions, adults need to prepare at least 75,000 Indonesian Rupiah in entrance fees, on top of the original Nusa Penida island entry fee and potential costs from other activities.

For family trips, children’s tickets are relatively cheaper, but after visiting multiple attractions with a family of four, the costs can add up significantly.

This system has just been implemented, and local tourism operators have reported that some tourists don’t understand why they need to pay extra for attractions after already paying the island entry fee, leading to some tour cancellations. Local tourism authorities say they will continue to monitor the actual implementation.

This doesn’t mean Nusa Penida is “not worth visiting,” but if you’re used to covering the western route attractions on a tight budget, you’ll need to recalculate now.

Especially for day trips, group charters, and family vacations, it’s best to ask upfront whether the itinerary quote includes entrance fees to avoid finding out you need to pay extra on the spot.

Additionally, Nusa Penida has been gradually moving toward digital payments in recent years, and this time, attraction tickets also require cashless payment. Besides credit cards or contactless payments, if you have a local Indonesian e-wallet, you can also pay by scanning a QRIS code.

So if you’re planning a trip to Nusa Penida soon, don’t rely solely on cash. Having both a credit card and an Indonesian e-wallet with QRIS ready will make paying for tickets much easier.
