The following content is provided by fellow traveler Ye Tingyu
At the end of April, we embarked on an 11-day free trip to Bali and Lombok. This journey remains unforgettable to this day. When planning this trip, I referred to many travelogues and suggestions from experienced travelers, knowing that planning a journey is not easy. Therefore, I hope to take this opportunity to share some recommended attractions we visited, along with short videos of each spot, to help everyone better feel the local atmosphere and decide whether to include these attractions in their own itinerary.
During this trip, we explored five main areas: Jimbaran, Uluwatu, Ubud, the Gili Islands, and Kuta. In this article, I will focus on the first three areas—Jimbaran, Uluwatu, and Ubud—sharing recommended attractions and personal reviews (these recommendations and reviews are purely personal opinions, and I welcome discussions and exchanges if you have different thoughts).
Recommended Attractions in Bali
Sunset Seafood Dinner at Jimbaran Beach

Jimbaran Seafood (provided by Ye Tingyu)
Recommendation Index: 🌟🌟🌟
Duration: 2.5 hours
Jimbaran Beach is renowned as one of the ‘World’s Top Ten Sunset Beaches,’ and its scenery is truly impeccable. Whether it’s the ocean view or the sunset, both are breathtakingly beautiful. However, the prices at the restaurants here can be hard to swallow. This was our first meal after landing, and the three of us ended up spending over $160, which left us stunned by the high costs.
While dining on the beach in the evening, bands often play around the seating area and request tips, which can feel a bit like emotional manipulation. Therefore, if you plan to dine here, I recommend checking restaurant reviews beforehand to decide whether it’s worth it. The beauty of Jimbaran Beach is worth seeing, but you should be more cautious when choosing a restaurant.

GWK Cultural Park in Jimbaran

Garuda Wisnu Kencana Square (Photo by Ye Tingyu)
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Duration: 3 hours
GWK Cultural Park is a highly worthwhile attraction. The majestic statue of Vishnu, visible even from the airport, stands 30 meters taller than the Statue of Liberty, leaving a deep impression. The entire park is grand and solemn, offering a sense of tranquility and reverence as you stroll through it. Sipping coconut water while exploring the park is a delightful experience. The souvenir shop inside is extensive and well-stocked, perfect for shopaholics. Additionally, the air-conditioned restrooms next to the park provide a refreshing escape from the heat. GWK Cultural Park is not only visually stunning but also well-equipped, making it a must-visit destination.

Uluwatu Temple Kecak Fire Dance

Kecak Fire Dance
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟
Duration: 1.5 hours
The Kecak Fire Dance at Uluwatu Temple narrates Balinese mythological stories, attracting nearly 2,000 spectators with its grand spectacle. While watching this performance, you can enjoy both the captivating dance and the stunning crimson sunset, creating an unforgettable visual and cultural experience.
It’s recommended to familiarize yourself with the story outline beforehand to better immerse yourself in the performance; otherwise, you might find it confusing or dull. Note that the fire dance segment lasts only about 5 minutes during the climax, so don’t mistake it for the fire performances by Taiwanese street artists.
The Kecak Fire Dance performance at Uluwatu Temple is a visual feast combining culture and natural beauty. Although the fire dance portion is brief, the overall atmosphere and quality of the performance make it well worth watching.

Uluwatu Oneeighty Club Cliffside Bar

Oneeighty Day Club (Photo by Yeh Ting-Yu)
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Recommended Duration: 3.5 hours
Oneeighty Club Cliffside Bar is an extravagant venue perched on a cliff, featuring a photogenic pool where you can easily spend two hours snapping pictures. The entrance fee can be offset against your purchases, making it feel like good value for money. The food here is among the tastiest in the Uluwatu area and is definitely worth trying.
However, remember to wash your hands after swimming before handling food, as it’s easy to contract ‘Bali Belly’ (traveler’s diarrhea) otherwise—a lesson I learned the hard way during my visit.
Oneeighty Club Cliffside Bar attracts many visitors with its unique location and high-quality food, making it a great spot to relax and capture stunning photos. Just be mindful of hygiene to avoid ruining your travel experience.

Ubud Monkey Forest

Monkey Forest (Photo by Yeh Ting-Yu)
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Recommended Duration: 2 hours
The Sacred Monkey Forest is a charming attraction filled with ancient art sculptures, caves, and totems, making visitors feel like they’re on an adventure. The number of monkeys here even surpasses the tourists, and their free-spirited behavior is fascinating—we even witnessed monkeys smoking, drinking Coke, and appearing to be ‘high’.
When visiting the Sacred Monkey Forest, it’s essential to follow the park’s monkey rules to avoid any attacks. Additionally, there’s a fun service where you can pay USD$3 to have a monkey hold your phone for a selfie. Although it’s a trick shot, the photos look incredibly realistic, adding a lot of fun to your trip.
The Sacred Monkey Forest is a culturally rich and surprising destination, perfect for animal lovers and adventure seekers.

Penglipuran Village, Ubud

Penglipuran Village (Photo by Yeh Ting-Yu)
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Recommended Duration: 2 hours
Penglipuran Village is renowned as one of the cleanest villages in the world. Every household here is open to visitors, allowing tourists to step inside and gain a deeper understanding of the locals’ daily lives and simple way of living. The architecture and streetscapes in the village are incredibly distinctive, making every corner a picturesque scene. The iconic split gates within the village are a must-see photo spot.
As most visitors are locals, the village retains an authentic charm without excessive commercialization. The villagers are warm and hospitable, offering visitors a genuine sense of community.
Penglipuran Village is a highly recommended destination, where you can not only enjoy stunning natural scenery but also immerse yourself in authentic local culture, creating a rich and unforgettable travel experience.

Tegallalang Rice Terrace in Ubud

Tegallalang Rice Field (Photo by Yeh Ting-Yu)
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Recommended Duration: 2.5 hours
Located just a 20-minute drive from Ubud city center, Tegallalang Rice Terrace is a stunning UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, you can admire the cascading rice terraces and experience thrilling swing rides. Although a 2-minute swing ride costs around USD$13, the breathtaking photos you can take here, especially in a long dress, make it worth every penny.
Additionally, there are numerous other photo spots, such as bird nests and heart-shaped decorations, perfect for Instagram-worthy shots. However, be mindful that the high humidity can cause headaches after prolonged exposure, so it’s advisable to take breaks and stay hydrated.
The Tegalalang Rice Terraces not only boast magnificent scenery but also offer a variety of experiential activities, making it an excellent journey that combines nature and adventure, well worth a visit.

Ubud Coffee Plantations
Recommendation Index: 🌟🌟🌟
Duration: 1 hour
In Ubud, there are many civet coffee plantations. We chose one recommended by our driver, which offered a tasting experience of 16 different types of tea and coffee. The tasting experience was indeed enjoyable, allowing us to try a variety of flavors in one go.
However, after returning home and doing some research, I found that these plantations have quite a few negative reviews. The main issue is that the products they sell are not consistent with the ones tasted during the experience. Therefore, I recommend doing some homework and checking reviews before visiting these coffee plantations to avoid an unpleasant shopping experience.

Jungle Gym at Ubud Wapa Di Ume
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Duration: 1.5 hours
The jungle gym at Ubud Wapa Di Ume offers an extremely unique fitness experience with a 360-degree panoramic view of Ubud’s natural landscape. Nestled between rice fields and jungle, it allows you to exercise amidst stunning natural scenery—an experience I found truly exceptional!
Although the gym equipment is limited, the low foot traffic means you can practically have the place to yourself, enjoying a private and tranquil workout space. This unique atmosphere makes the entire fitness routine more comfortable and focused.
The jungle gym at Ubud Wapa Di Ume not only provides fitness facilities but also allows you to relax and rejuvenate in a natural setting, making it an ideal spot to escape the hustle and bustle and find peace.
