In late April, we embarked on an 11-day free & easy trip to Bali and Lombok. This journey remains unforgettable to me. When planning this trip, I consulted many travelogues and advice from predecessors, fully aware that itinerary planning is no easy feat. Therefore, I want to take this chance to share some recommended attractions we visited, along with short videos of each spot, so you can better immerse yourself in the local atmosphere and decide whether to include these places in your own itinerary.
Our trip covered five main areas: Jimbaran, Uluwatu, Ubud, the Gili Islands, and Kuta. In this article, I’ll focus on the first three—Jimbaran, Uluwatu, and Ubud—offering recommendations and personal reviews (these are purely subjective opinions; feel free to discuss if you have different thoughts).
Recommended Bali Attractions
Jimbaran Beach Sunset Seafood Feast

Duration: 2.5 hours
Jimbaran Beach is renowned as one of the ‘World’s Top Ten Sunset Beaches,’ and the scenery here is truly flawless—both the ocean views and the sunsets are breathtakingly beautiful. However, the prices at the restaurants here can be a bit hard to swallow. This was our first meal after landing, and three of us ended up spending over NT$5,000 (about USD$161), which really made us lament how expensive it was.
When dining on the sand, a band would come around to play near our table in the evening and then ask for tips, which felt a bit like emotional blackmail. So, if you’re planning to eat here, I recommend checking restaurant reviews beforehand before deciding where to go. Jimbaran Beach’s beauty is worth seeing, but you need to be more cautious when choosing a restaurant.

Jimbaran GWK Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park

GWK Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park is a must-visit attraction. You can spot the majestic Vishnu statue from the airport—it’s 30 meters taller than the Statue of Liberty, leaving a lasting impression. The entire park is grand and solemn, and strolling through it brings a sense of peace and reverence. Enjoying a coconut drink while wandering the park is a wonderfully relaxing experience. The souvenir shops inside are large and well-stocked, perfect for shoppers. Plus, the restrooms near the park are air-conditioned, offering a refreshing escape from the heat. GWK Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park not only boasts stunning scenery but also has excellent facilities, making it an unmissable travel destination.

Uluwatu Temple Kecak Fire Dance

The Kecak fire dance performance at Uluwatu Temple tells a Balinese mythological story, drawing nearly 2,000 spectators for a truly spectacular scene. As you watch the captivating dance, you can also take in the stunning blood-red sunset—a visual and cultural feast that’s hard to forget.
It’s recommended to read up on the story outline beforehand to better immerse yourself; otherwise, you might feel bored from not understanding it. Note that the fire dance only lasts about 5 minutes during the final climax, so don’t confuse it with the fire performances of street artists in Taiwan.
The Kecak fire dance at Uluwatu Temple is a visual feast that combines culture and natural beauty. Although the fire dance portion is not extensive, the overall atmosphere and performance quality are well worth seeing.

Oneeighty Club Cliff Bar at Uluwatu

Oneeighty Club Cliff Bar is an extravagant venue built on a cliff, featuring a signature pool that is perfect for photos—you could easily spend two hours just snapping pictures. The entrance fee is also redeemable against purchases, making it feel like good value. The food here is quite delicious by Uluwatu standards and well worth trying.
However, after getting out of the water, remember to wash your hands before eating, or you might easily catch ‘Bali Belly’—a lesson I learned the hard way from personal experience here.
With its unique cliffside location and quality food, Oneeighty Club Cliff Bar attracts many visitors. It’s a great spot to relax and take stunning photos, but be mindful of hygiene to avoid ruining your travel experience.

Ubud Monkey Forest

The Monkey Forest is a charming, ancient-feeling attraction filled with artistic statues, caves, and totems throughout the park, making it feel like a real adventure. There are even more monkeys here than tourists, and they roam freely—we even spotted a smoking monkey, a cola-drinking monkey, and a monkey that seemed to be on something.
When visiting the Monkey Forest, be sure to follow the park’s monkey rules to avoid getting attacked. There’s also a fun service where you can pay USD$3 for a monkey to take a selfie with your phone—it’s an optical illusion, but the photos look incredibly realistic and add a lot of fun to the trip.
The Monkey Forest is a place full of culture and surprises, perfect for animal lovers and adventure seekers alike.

Penglipuran Village in Ubud

Penglipuran Village is known as the cleanest village in the world. Every household here is open to visitors, allowing you to step inside and get a genuine glimpse into local daily life and its simple charm. The architecture and streetscapes are incredibly photogenic—every corner offers a picture-perfect view, especially the iconic split gate (Candi Bentar), which is a must-photograph spot.
Since most visitors are locals, the village retains an authentic, uncommercialized atmosphere. The friendly and welcoming residents add a warm, heartfelt touch to the experience.
Penglipuran Village is a truly worthwhile destination, offering not only beautiful natural scenery but also an immersive cultural experience—a rich and unforgettable travel memory.

Ubud’s Tegallalang Rice Terraces

Just a 20-minute drive from Ubud’s city center, the Tegallalang Rice Terraces are a stunning UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, you can admire the layered beauty of the rice paddies and try the thrilling swing experience. Though the two-minute swing ride costs nearly USD$13, the stunning photos you can capture in a long dress make it well worth the price.
In addition, there are many other photo spots here, such as bird nests and heart-shaped decorations, all perfect for snapping Instagram-worthy shots. However, note that the humidity here is quite high, and wandering around for too long might give you a headache, so it’s best to take breaks and stay hydrated.
Tegalalang Rice Terrace not only offers stunning scenery but also provides a wealth of hands-on activities, making it a fantastic journey that blends nature and adventure—well worth a visit.

Ubud Coffee Plantation

Recommended Stay: 1 hour
In Ubud, there are many civet coffee plantations. We chose one recommended by our driver, which offered a tasting experience of 16 different teas and coffees. The tasting was indeed enjoyable at the time, allowing us to sample a wide variety of flavors in one go.
However, after returning home and doing some research, we found many negative reviews about these plantations. The main issue is that the products they sell don’t match what you taste during the sampling. So, it’s a good idea to do your homework and check reviews before visiting any coffee plantation to avoid an unpleasant shopping experience.

Ubud Hotel Jungle Gym

Duration: 1.5 hours
The jungle gym at the Wapa Di Ume Resort in Ubud offers an incredibly unique fitness experience, with 360-degree panoramic views of Ubud’s natural landscape. Tucked away between rice paddies and jungle, it lets you work out surrounded by nature—a truly rare experience in my opinion!
Although the equipment is limited, the low crowd means you can almost have the place to yourself, enjoying a private and peaceful workout space. This unique atmosphere makes the entire exercise session more comfortable and focused.
The jungle gym at Wapa Di Ume Resort not only provides fitness facilities but also allows you to unwind in a natural setting—an ideal spot to escape the hustle and find tranquility.
