Bottom Line: The 3-day Bali + 2-day, 1-night Komodo liveaboard combo is perfect for families wanting to experience both Balinese culture and the natural wonders of Komodo National Park. For the Bali leg, we recommend hiring a Chinese-speaking private driver recommended by the group to help arrange attractions and take photos—this greatly enhances the trip’s smoothness and the quality of your souvenir shots.
This is a record of our family of four’s amazing journey through Bali and Komodo. We spent three days in Bali, then headed to Komodo for two days, making it a five-day adventure, where we joined a two-day, one-night Komodo liveaboard tour.

The Wonderful Bali Experience
I highly recommend our Bali private driver, Xiao Wu. During our three days in Bali, Xiao Wu accompanied and took care of us the entire time. Xiao Wu is the husband of Betty Pinky, and his Mandarin is very fluent, so we started discussing the itinerary with him while still in Taiwan. He arranged accommodations and activities based on our needs, whether it was mountain-and-sea excursions or sampling local snacks—he handled everything with ease, taking us deep into the Balinese experience in the most relaxed way.

Throughout the trip, Xiao Wu chatted with us, giving us insights into local culture. His arrangements were meticulous, from restaurants to activities, all with point-to-point coordination that made our trip thoroughly enjoyable. He even went out of his way to secure the best seats and capture the finest views. A delightful surprise came during the sunrise jeep tour: Xiao Wu brought a drone, and his jeep partner used an iPhone 15 to take stunning Instagram-worthy photos of us, even editing them afterward, leaving us with wonderful memories!

On our last day in Bali, since we were heading to Komodo Island, we chose to stay near the airport. When we planned to simply take the hotel’s taxi to the airport, Xiao Wu worried the driver might mistakenly take us to the international terminal, so he got up early to remind the driver and make sure everything went smoothly. In the end, a small hiccup happened (I was too relaxed and gave the wrong amount of money 😭), but thankfully Xiao Wu and his wife stepped in to help resolve the issue, and we eventually got our money back. Having them around in a foreign place gave us such peace of mind. When we returned to Bali after our Komodo trip, Xiao Wu even came to the airport to return the money and escorted us all the way from the domestic terminal to the security checkpoint of the international terminal before he felt at ease to leave.
Komodo Island Liveaboard Adventure

Our two-day, one-night liveaboard trip to Komodo Island was an unforgettable experience. The comfort of the boat exceeded our expectations—the sea was calm, and the gentle breeze made it incredibly pleasant (though conditions always depend on the weather). The meals on board were simple but delicious, and the grilled fish was especially memorable.

One of the biggest advantages of joining a liveaboard is being able to watch the sunrise at Padar Island without the back-and-forth hassle of a speedboat tour. Speedboat trips usually can’t arrange sunrise viewing, but a liveaboard gives us the chance to see Padar’s magnificent sunrise. In addition, the evening sunset and starry night sky also left us lingering and reluctant to leave.

However, the two-day, one-night itinerary felt a bit too short, especially when we encountered a light afternoon rain that made the sea slightly choppy, slowing the boat and cutting some activities from the schedule. Based on this experience, I recommend that anyone considering a Komodo trip opt for a three-day, two-night or longer itinerary, especially if you’re interested in diving or snorkeling. A two-day trip is indeed a bit rushed for fully experiencing all the highlights of Komodo Island.
