Key Takeaways: For a 6-day, 5-night trip to Bali with kids, the on-site visa-on-arrival queue took about 20 minutes—it’s better to apply for an e-visa in advance to save time. When exchanging money, don’t just exchange USD$200—while card payments are convenient, private driver fees often require cash, so it’s wise to exchange more upfront (in this case, an additional USD$150 was needed).
Our 6-day, 5-night Bali trip has come to a perfect end! We’re so grateful to the helpful community members and the wealth of information shared, which made this family trip with two kids smooth, relaxed, and truly enjoyable.

Let’s start with our preparation and customs process:
✔️ E-Visa: Upon arrival, we noticed the visa-on-arrival queue took about 20 minutes. Luckily, the new e-visa website shared by the community saved us a lot of time! Using the e-visa was much more convenient, allowing us to start our journey sooner.

✔️ USD Exchange: We initially exchanged USD$200, planning to use cards wherever possible. But by the end, we ran out of cash to pay our driver for the private car service, so we exchanged another USD$150 at the hotel. This taught us that while card payments are convenient, you still need to keep an eye on cash needs—especially when using private drivers—to avoid any hiccups in your itinerary!

Next, here’s our detailed itinerary:
Day 1
After arriving in Bali, we headed straight to our stay at Bidadari Villa. Along the way, our driver Agus kindly took us to buy a SIM card and exchange currency first. We chose the cheapest 12GB SIM card, which cost about USD$16. The internet speed in Bali was quite stable, and the data was sufficient for our entire trip—whether for navigation or sharing travel moments online, it worked smoothly.

In the evening, we walked about 8 minutes to Natys Restaurant Ubud for dinner. Although the prices here weren’t exactly cheap, the food quality was excellent—both in taste and presentation. The service was also very attentive, and the restaurant’s ambiance was perfect for a relaxing family dinner.

The entire first day went smoothly. Though we were a bit tired upon arrival, the great accommodation and delicious food quickly put us in vacation mode. We’re looking forward to the days ahead.
Day 2

We went River Tubing at Nukuwera
Today was a full-day private tour in Ubud. Our first stop was the Nukuwera & Pandawa River Tubing, recommended by Xiao Jie. Lunch was included, and the whole tubing experience was perfect for families. Even with kids, we had a blast—the little ones absolutely loved their time in the water.

After that, we headed to the famous Sacred Monkey Forest

Wild monkeys can easily get rowdy, so it’s best to keep your distance.
The kids were fascinated by the monkeys here, but we stayed extra cautious since these little guys can be a bit mischievous at times.
Next, we visited the Ubud Palace to soak in the local cultural vibe. Afterward, we made a special stop at KUO CUSINE to pick up some local fruit jams. They had a great variety, and grabbing a few jars as souvenirs was a nice idea.
Dinner was a spontaneous affair. Since we had the kids with us, we kept the schedule pretty relaxed. We found Warung Pulau Kelapa on Google on a whim, and luckily the food was good. Though a bit pricey, the ambiance was lovely and very family-friendly. For us traveling with children, a comfortable dining setting and convenient location matter more than the cost—it made for an easy and enjoyable dinner.

Overall, today’s itinerary wasn’t too packed, but it was full of family fun, leaving everyone in our group feeling content.

Day 3
Today was our moving day, heading to Bali Safari Park. Along the way, we asked our driver Benny to take us to try the burgers at Ayoo-Ayoo. This place has a five-star rating on Google, so we went there out of curiosity, and it did not disappoint! The burgers were fantastic—tender, juicy meat with rich toppings. It was a truly satisfying food experience for the whole family.

Editor’s note: I’ve tried at least 50 different burgers in Bali, and almost none of them were disappointing—every single one was delicious!
Next, we stopped by a nearby supermarket to stock up on essentials, then arrived at the park and checked in. That evening, we had dinner at the park’s Tsavo Lion Restaurant, which is famous for letting you dine while watching lions through a glass window! The kids were thrilled, and the whole meal was both fun and unique.

After dinner, there was a photo service with animals outside the restaurant. We opted for it, and the photographer took many pictures—shots of mom and brother, dad and sister, and a family of four. The best part was that the entire set included all digital files, plus one A4-sized print with a beautiful album, all for around USD$23. The photos turned out great, and everyone looked wonderful. We felt it was an incredible value for capturing memories!

The kids had a blast at the zoo!
Although today was mainly a travel day, it was filled with surprises and warm family moments.
Day 4
Today we moved from Bali Safari to The Westin Resort Nusa Dua. Along the way, we asked our driver Agus to help us find local snacks, including Siobak (roast pork) and Martabak (stuffed pancake). Agus not only found suitable small eateries but also carefully communicated with the shop owners to prevent us from being overcharged as tourists. This thoughtful service made us feel truly warm.

Next, we asked the driver about buying souvenirs, and we went to Krisna and The Balinese to shop. When Agus recommended Krisna, he specifically reminded us that if we needed other places, we could let him know anytime, allowing us to decide our own itinerary. This reminded me of a travel experience over a decade ago, when I clearly stated I didn’t want to shop but was still forced by a hired driver to visit several shopping factories—I was really furious at the time. This experience left me feeling very satisfied and relaxed, because Agus fully respected our wishes.

For dinner, we dined at Velada Restaurant within the resort, enjoying burgers and Indian cuisine. The restaurant had a very comfortable atmosphere, and the food was delicious—the burger was flavorful, and the Indian dishes were a delightful surprise, with spices used just right. It was a perfect end to our fourth day of the trip.
Overall, today’s itinerary let us experience the warmth and thoughtfulness of the locals, making our journey even more enjoyable and memorable.

Day 5
Today we decided to spend a relaxing day at the Westin resort, unwinding, enjoying the ocean views, indulging in the spa, and cycling around. The kids had a blast at the Kid’s Club, playing under professional supervision, which gave us peace of mind to enjoy some adult time. 😁

Day Six
On the last day, our itinerary was to head to the airport, and we once again asked Agus to drive us. We’re very grateful for his and Benny’s patience and tolerance with our kids’ noise in the car, which made our trip much smoother.
For lunch, we settled at Made’s Warung in the airport. For our final farewell meal, we had to order the nostalgic Nasi Goreng and Mie Goreng. These classic Indonesian fried rice and fried noodles never get old, accompanying our mood as we bid goodbye to Bali 👋, marking a perfect end to this journey.
Throughout the trip, we not only enjoyed beautiful scenery and delicious food but also created many wonderful memories with our children, which will become an unforgettable and precious experience in our hearts.
Special Recommendations
A special shout-out to our drivers, Agus and Benny. They were not only attentive but always had our best interests at heart, handling everything from itinerary planning to transportation with great care.

One moment that truly touched me was when we went river tubing—Agus even managed to get us an extra discount! Though a small part of me wondered if it might be some kind of commission rebate, the gesture still felt incredibly warm. After all, they had no obligation to pass that savings on to us. Throughout the trip, they were also wonderfully attentive to our kids, making us feel truly cared for ❤️. Traveling with children can be challenging, but having such thoughtful drivers made the entire journey smoother and more enjoyable.
