When people think of Bali, most imagine beaches, temples, or spas. But this time, my three friends and I decided to try something different. After much comparison, we chose the ‘ATV Ride + Ayung River Rafting’ combo package, which turned out to be the most thrilling and unforgettable day of our Bali trip!

Itinerary Overview: The Perfect Land & Water Combo
This day tour is exceptionally well-designed, combining two distinct adventure experiences: water rafting and land ATV riding. The morning features 2 hours of Ayung River rafting, followed by an Indonesian-style forest buffet lunch, and concludes with 1.5 hours of ATV riding in the afternoon. The entire itinerary runs from 8 am to 5 pm, making for a truly fulfilling day.
Morning Experience: Exploring Ayung River Rafting
Safety Briefing & Gear Preparation
At 8:30 am sharp, the operator’s shuttle bus arrived. Special praise goes to their transportation arrangements - air-conditioned vehicles with comfortable seats made the 30-minute ride completely fatigue-free. Upon arrival at the rafting starting point, our professional guide gave a detailed safety briefing, covering proper life jacket wear, paddling techniques, and emergency procedures.
All safety equipment was complete and in excellent condition, including waterproof helmets, life jackets, and paddles. The guide meticulously checked each person’s gear to ensure proper wear, which made us feel very secure.
The Rafting Experience: A Water Adventure Full of Surprises
The Ayung River rafting route is ingeniously designed, lasting about 2 hours with moderate difficulty. It features thrilling rapids as well as calm scenic sections. What surprised us most was discovering several hidden waterfalls along the way! These waterfalls are tucked away in the dense tropical rainforest, accessible only by bamboo raft, making them truly secret spots that regular tourists never get to see.

One waterfall was particularly spectacular, about 15 meters high, with water cascading straight down the cliff face. In the sunlight, we could even see a rainbow. The guide stopped here for about 10 minutes so we could take photos. My friend Sarah was initially nervous, but she got so excited when she saw these beautiful sights, exclaiming in delight throughout the journey.

The most thrilling part of the rafting was passing through several Class III rapids. The rubber raft sped through the rushing water, splashing everywhere. We all got soaked but had an absolute blast. Kevin even joked that it was more exciting than water park rides!
Lunchtime: A Feast for the Senses in the Forest
After rafting, we arrived at the dining area deep in the forest. The setting was stunning, surrounded by lush greenery, with fresh air and the chirping of birds. The open-air design made it feel like we were dining in nature’s embrace.
The buffet offered a rich variety of dishes, including classic Indonesian fried rice (nasi goreng), satay skewers, Indonesian chicken curry, various vegetable dishes, and fresh tropical fruits. The food quality was surprisingly good, especially the satay—tender meat paired with peanut sauce was incredibly flavorful. The four of us ate to our hearts’ content, replenishing our energy for the afternoon ATV adventure.
Before the meal, there were shower facilities available, which was thoughtful. It allowed us to change into clean clothes and enjoy our meal comfortably, preparing for the afternoon activities.
Afternoon Challenge: ATV Off-Road Adventure Exploring the Countryside
ATV Safety Training and Test Drive
At 1:30 PM, we arrived at the ATV activity base. Like in the morning, professional instructors first gave detailed safety instructions and operational training. Operating an ATV isn’t difficult—mainly controlling the throttle and brakes—but the coach still carefully explained turning techniques, precautions for uphill and downhill riding, and more.
Everyone gets a chance to test ride for a few minutes at the practice area to ensure familiarity with the controls before officially setting off. The safety equipment, including helmets and boots, is of excellent quality.
Countryside Adventure: Exploring Bali’s Most Beautiful Rural Areas
The ATV route mainly covers the Bongkasa Pertiwi and Taman areas, preserving Bali’s most authentic rural landscapes. Our route includes rice field paths, bamboo forest tunnels, traditional villages, and hill trails, each offering different scenery and challenges.

The most memorable part was crossing the terraced rice fields, where emerald green rice stalks swayed in the breeze with distant mountains painting a picturesque rural scene. We also passed through several traditional Balinese villages, witnessing local daily life. Children excitedly waved at us, creating a heartwarming atmosphere.

The most thrilling section of the route was the hill trail, with some steep slopes and bumpy stone paths. My friend Amy was initially nervous but quickly adapted, even starting to enjoy the sense of accomplishment from conquering challenging terrain. The funniest moment was when Kevin almost tipped over at a muddy turn, but he managed to stabilize the ATV just in time, leaving us all in fits of laughter.
Natural Landscapes: Discovering Another Side of Bali
The ATV ride allowed us to venture deep into Bali’s inland areas, revealing landscapes completely different from the coast. Here, we encountered lush tropical rainforests, crystal-clear streams, and small waterfalls hidden in the valleys. The rich ecosystem along the way included various tropical birds and butterflies, and we even spotted a few wild monkeys.

The most impressive moment was passing by a small stream where the guide let us stop to rest and take photos. The water was crystal clear, surrounded by pristine tropical vegetation with no trace of human intervention. This untouched natural beauty was truly refreshing and gave us a whole new perspective on Bali.
