Times are changing, and so is Bali’s tourism model.

In the past, cash was king in Bali, with only a few high-end establishments accepting credit cards, and even traveler’s checks were sometimes required. Those days are now history.
With the rapid development of global fintech, Bali is progressively implementing digital payment and e-ticketing systems at major tourist sites, offering international visitors a more convenient, secure, and transparent spending experience.
Digital Payments Become the New Normal in Bali Tourism
Travelers to Bali now need to be prepared with international credit cards, debit cards, or travel debit cards more than ever before. While cash still plays an important role in some areas, the island has significantly accelerated its digital transformation this year, especially at officially managed tourist attractions.
This shift is driven by three main factors.
First, Bali must align with the global trend of digital banking and cashless payments. Second, most international travelers prefer card or mobile payments. Lastly, digital systems effectively enhance financial transparency and tax management efficiency.
Buleleng Regency in North Bali Speeds Up Installation of E-Ticketing Equipment

The Buleleng Tourism Office in North Bali recently announced that it is actively promoting electronic ticketing and digital payment systems at major tourist attractions.
I Gede Dody Sukma Oktiva Askara, the head of the tourism office, stated that the office currently has only 13 electronic ticketing devices, which are insufficient to fully support all officially taxed tourist sites.
Therefore, the tourism office has planned to apply for subsidies through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program of the Bali Regional Development Bank (BPD) by 2026 to acquire more equipment. Buleleng Regency actually needs about 40 devices to fully cover 25 official tourist attractions.
Tourist Season Arrives, North Bali’s Hotel Occupancy Rates Soar
Askara pointed out that North Bali is expected to see significant tourism growth in 2026. Currently, about 90% of popular hotels are confirmed to be fully booked during the holiday season.
He added that Christmas and New Year have always been peak travel periods, with visitor numbers typically increasing significantly from the end of the year to the beginning of the new year, making the introduction of more efficient digital systems imperative.

Why is North Bali Only Now Gaining International Attention?
Buleleng Regency spans the northern and northwestern parts of Bali and has long remained relatively low-key. Most international tourists still concentrate in the southern Badung Regency, such as around Kuta, Seminyak, and Ubud.
However, North Bali actually boasts rich and diverse tourism resources.
Pemuteran Village is renowned for community involvement and marine conservation and was recently selected by the United Nations World Tourism Organization as one of the world’s best tourism villages.
Additionally, the Munduk region boasts pristine waterfalls, lush tropical rainforests, and refreshing mountain landscapes, making it an ideal destination for nature and eco-tourism enthusiasts.
Gateway to West Bali National Park
Buleleng Regency also serves as the primary gateway to West Bali National Park. This park is home to wild deer, monitor lizards, diverse marine life, and the critically endangered Bali Starling.

With comprehensive upgrades in digital payments and e-ticketing, North Bali is gradually transforming into a new destination that combines nature, ecology, and smart tourism.
Do I still need to carry a lot of cash in Bali?
No. While cash is still used in some areas, popular tourist spots widely support card payments and digital transactions.
Is North Bali suitable for first-time visitors to Bali?
Absolutely, especially for travelers who enjoy nature, eco-tourism, and less crowded itineraries.
What are the benefits of e-ticketing for travelers?
It reduces waiting times, improves ticket purchasing efficiency, and ensures transparency in pricing and transactions.
What payment methods are recommended for convenience?
Using international credit cards along with an appropriate amount of Indonesian Rupiah cash is ideal.
Why is North Bali receiving special attention in 2026?
With fully booked accommodations, upgraded infrastructure, and comprehensive digital payment integration, the quality of tourism has significantly improved.
