Thanks to group member Yang Mei for sharing the photo of her bed full of spoils 🎁
Every time returning from Bali to Taiwan, my suitcase is always packed with various souvenirs - potato chips, chili sauce, dried squid, and a bunch of local snacks, each one too good to miss!
But can these spoils be smoothly brought back to Taiwan? Recently, group member Yang Mei asked this very practical question, along with sharing her impressive photo of shopping spoils in Bali.
This article will help us understand Taiwan Customs’ regulations, avoiding any accidental violations, ensuring a happy shopping trip and a worry-free return!
Items That Can Be Brought Back to Taiwan ✅
From Yang Mei’s photo, most of the products fall into the following categories, which are allowed by Taiwan Customs:
- ✅Cookies, potato chips, pineapple cakes (like Kusuka, GuriBee)
- ✅Coconut chips
- ✅Instant snack noodles (Enak, Mie Sedaap, be cautious with ingredients)
- ✅Dried seafood products (like JUHU dried squid)
- ✅Bottled sauces (like chili sauce)
- ✅Toothpaste, skincare products, hair oils (like Sensodyne toothpaste, Aloe Vera gel)
- ✅Nuts, candies, chocolates
As long as the products are unopened, factory-sealed, with clear ingredient labels, and the quantity is for ‘personal use’, they can usually be smoothly brought into Taiwan.
Special Note: Pork Products 🚫
Important reminder! Taiwan has very strict prohibitions on food products containing pork, including but not limited to:
- 🚫 Pork jerky, pork floss, pork crackers, fried pork skin
- 🚫 Foods labeled with Pork, Lard, or Pork Extract
- 🚫 Instant noodles or crackers with pork broth or meat particles
If caught, the minimum fine is USD$6,450! (And a second violation can result in a fine of USD$32,250)
(The last three pork-related items Xiao Jie mentioned are also prohibited!)
So, for snacks like Enak or Mie Sedaap, remember to carefully check the ingredients. 👉 If you see words like ‘Pork/babi’ (the Indonesian word for pork), it’s best to finish them in Bali and not bring them back to Taiwan.
A small tip: After returning to your hotel, take out the instant noodle packaging and double-check the ingredients. If in doubt, don’t risk bringing it.
What about dried squid? 🐙
Yang Mei also specifically asked: ‘Is JUHU, which is processed and dried squid slices, allowed?’
✅ The answer is: Yes!
Here’s why:
- Processed squid is considered dried seafood, not a meat product.
- The packaging is intact with clear ingredient labeling.
- It’s classified as a commercially processed product, not fresh seafood.
As long as the quantity is reasonable, you can go through the regular customs channel when entering Taiwan without special declaration.
Reminder: If carrying a large quantity (more than 20 boxes) that appears to be for commercial use, you may be subject to inspection, so it’s recommended to keep quantities reasonable.
Tips for Bringing Bali Souvenirs Back to Taiwan ✈️
Here are some tips to make your return to Taiwan smoother:
- Group dried goods together for easier customs inspection.
- Never risk bringing back any products containing meat.
- When in doubt, declare it proactively.

Personal Thoughts 🌴
Every time I go on a shopping spree for souvenirs in Bali, it’s easy to get carried away, but clearing customs is the most crucial step.
Especially now that Taiwan has very strict inspections on pork products, it’s better to bring less rather than risk getting fined. Seeing Yang Mei bring back so many amazing souvenirs this time really makes me envious, especially that whole row of dried squid - it must be such a happy late-night snack! 😍
Summary
- ✅ Potato chips, coconut chips, dried squid - OK!
- 🚫 Absolutely no pork products!
- Bring reasonable quantities for personal use - safest approach.
As long as you keep these key points in mind, you can shop happily at the end of your Bali trip and pass through customs smoothly when returning home!
