This 10-day, 9-night Bali trip with my girlfriend (June 26 to July 5, 2024) was filled with unforgettable experiences. Before departure, we gathered valuable travel information from the ‘Bali/Indonesia Travel Guide’ platform. To give back, we’d like to share our journey and especially recommend our private driver, Ketut, who warmly welcomed us Taiwanese travelers and made our Bali adventure even more memorable.
First Encounter: Warmth and Attention to Detail
Upon arriving at Denpasar Airport, we contacted Ketut. He was an enthusiastic and always-smiling young man who immediately helped us with our luggage and even opened the car door for us—small gestures that gave us a fresh perspective on Bali. On the way to our villa, Ketut took us to a highly-rated currency exchange spot and shared insights about Bali’s religious culture and local customs. Through his explanations, we learned that Bali is the only Hindu-majority region in Indonesia, blending local traditions and practices, which deepened our understanding of Balinese Hinduism. This unique belief system, including ancestor worship, nature worship, and devotion to deities, felt truly special.

Unexpected Surprises During the Dry Season
Our trip coincided with Bali’s dry season, offering pleasant weather without the humidity and heat of Taiwan. It was the peak of the tourist season, but not overly crowded, ensuring a comfortable travel experience. However, we did encounter a few rainy days, missing some sunset and sunrise views. These small regrets have become reasons for us to return in the future.

Despite a Cold, Still Meticulously Planned
Although Ketut felt unwell on the second day of our visit to Bali, he still arranged for another driver, Manx Liega, from his professional tour guide team. Liega has a completely different personality from Ketut. Although he doesn’t initiate conversations much, he is equally excellent in planning the routes to the attractions. His silence doesn’t affect his professionalism; instead, it allows us to enjoy the beautiful sea views with more tranquility and comfort.

Our itinerary also included island hopping to Nusa Penida. Although Ketut couldn’t personally drive us, his team maintained close cooperation with local drivers. During these three days of island hopping, they repeatedly helped us confirm the routes and schedules for the attractions, which was truly thoughtful!

An Encounter at Tanah Lot Temple
During our visit to Tanah Lot Temple (Pura Tanah Lot), we encountered many wild macaques. Ketut, while sharing stories about the macaques, actively helped us fend off the mischievous monkeys that would steal items from tourists, such as hats, flip-flops, and glasses. Just as Ketut finished telling these tales, a macaque suddenly appeared on the stone path, attempting to snatch a white tourist’s flip-flop. Fortunately, it didn’t succeed. This mix of frustration and slight panic added a unique and amusing twist to our journey.

Beautiful Memories of the Trip
This trip not only allowed my girlfriend and me to spend wonderful time together but also deepened our experience of Bali. We look forward to returning to Bali in the future to continue exploring this enchanting island. A special mention goes to our drivers—their photography skills are truly top-notch. If you’re satisfied with their service, don’t forget to tip them as a gesture of appreciation for their hard work.
