Finally made it to Bali this summer, a place I’ve always dreamed of visiting. This trip had many moments that matched my expectations, along with some unexpected discoveries and reflections to share with everyone:
Weather

Bali’s weather wasn’t as hot as I imagined, especially since heavy rain and bright sunshine often occur on the same day. The rain can be torrential, happening every one or two days, but the wind isn’t too strong. I recommend bringing a light jacket, as it can get chilly when it rains. When engaging in outdoor activities, always carry rain gear to avoid sudden downpours disrupting your plans. Additionally, sunscreen is essential, as the UV rays are still very strong even when the weather is unpredictable.
Aesthetics and Decor
The shops, aesthetics, and decor in Bali are quite impressive, especially in some hotels and yoga studios that excel at using bamboo and woven bamboo to decorate roofs and chandeliers. Vietnamese bamboo weaving is more intricate, but Indonesian designs are more creative and grand. I particularly loved the bamboo chandeliers here, which provided a lot of inspiration for future home decor. These unique design styles not only reflect local cultural characteristics but also convey a sense of beauty that blends nature with modernity. During your travels, don’t hesitate to take plenty of photos to capture these beautiful designs as inspiration for future home decorations.

Transportation
Traffic in Bali is notoriously chaotic, with almost no traffic lights, mixed lanes for vehicles and motorcycles, and hardly any dedicated sidewalks. Walking on the streets can be nerve-wracking, as you constantly worry about getting hit. It’s advisable to wear sturdy shoes, as there are also many puddles. The traffic order here is quite different from other cities, and it takes some time to adjust when you first arrive. When choosing transportation, it’s recommended to use ride-hailing services like Grab or Gojek, which are convenient and safe, reducing the risks of walking.
Plants
Bali’s vegetation is even more lush than imagined, making it perfect for plant lovers. You’ll see vast stretches of greenery and various exotic plants everywhere, many of which you might be seeing for the first time in your life. The island’s botanical gardens and nature reserves are must-visit attractions, where you can not only admire rare plants but also learn a lot about tropical flora. Don’t forget to bring your camera on your journey to capture these verdant landscapes.

Insects
Bali is also home to many insects, moths, and ants, and the locals have a harmonious approach to coexisting with them. Many shops place offerings outside for the insects to eat. It’s not uncommon to encounter insects during a spa session, and locals usually catch them by hand 🪰 rather than killing them. This attitude toward living creatures is fascinating and reflects the locals’ respect for life. During your trip, it’s advisable to carry insect repellent, especially for outdoor activities, to avoid bites.
Jewelry Stores
Bali’s jewelry stores are incredibly appealing, such as Blink, where almost every shop makes you want to step inside. There are also many local designer brands that incorporate natural elements into their designs, offering great value for money. These pieces are not only beautifully crafted but also infused with local cultural vibes, making them perfect souvenirs or gifts. When shopping for jewelry, take the time to chat with the shop owners and learn the stories behind each piece, which adds to their uniqueness.
Transportation

Using Grab or Gojek for taxis is very convenient, and most drivers are polite. A 20-minute ride costs around USD$3, and for longer distances, you can hire a private car. Private car services are highly flexible, and drivers usually tailor the route to your needs, allowing you to maximize your time and visit more attractions. Before setting off, discuss your itinerary with the driver to ensure smooth travel to each destination.
Yoga Clothes
I initially thought yoga clothes here would be cheap, but they turned out to be quite expensive. Famous brands like Indigo Luna start at around USD$65-100, while the yoga clothes at Alchemy downstairs cost over USD$160. At these prices, it’s more cost-effective to buy Lululemon. Although the prices are high, the quality and design of these brands’ yoga clothes are excellent. If you find a style you like, it’s worth the investment. When shopping, it’s a good idea to compare several stores to find the best style and price for you.
Yoga Classes

Yoga Barn offers many classes, but the venue is a bit outdated, which might be a letdown if expectations are too high. There are many flashy classes, but fewer traditional yoga sessions. The free yoga classes at hotels are surprisingly good. If you’re interested in yoga, try out different studios to find the best classes and instructors for you. Bali offers a wide variety of yoga classes, catering to everyone from beginners to advanced practitioners, ensuring there’s something for every level.
Food
Bali’s cuisine mainly features pork ribs, fried noodles, and fried rice. Those who love vegetable juices will adore the fresh juices here—super fresh, perfect for two glasses a day. The ingredients are fresh, and the dishes have unique flavors that are worth trying. While enjoying the food, take the time to learn about the local culinary culture and experience different tastes. Don’t miss out on local specialty restaurants, where you can enjoy authentic dishes and immerse yourself in the rich cultural atmosphere.

People and Services

Most people are very polite and welcoming, and it’s safe to walk around at night. The spa services here are excellent, affordable, and offer great value for money. It’s recommended to try different spas during your trip to relax and enjoy the leisurely pace of life. The warmth and hospitality of the locals make you feel very welcome, whether you’re at a restaurant, shop, or tourist spot. This friendly atmosphere adds many wonderful memories to your journey.
