Having trouble uploading photos for your Indonesia/Bali eVOA application? Here's how to solve it

There are many benefits to applying for an electronic visa (eVOA) to enter Indonesia/Bali!

Steps to prepare documents for electronic visa application:

1. Scan or photograph passport page: Ensure the passport page is clearly visible without glare. Save it as a JPG or PDF file.
2. Passport photo: If you don’t have one, take a selfie against a plain wall. Make sure the photo is high quality and save it as JPG format.
3. Credit card: Have your credit card ready for payment of related fees.
4. Hotel/villa address: Prepare the address of your accommodation in Bali for filling out the application form.
5. Flight ticket PDF: Have your flight ticket PDF ready to confirm your arrival and departure dates.

Visit the official Indonesian immigration website for applications: https://evisa.imigrasi.go.id/

You no longer need to create an account to apply for an electronic visa, and you can apply for up to 5 people at once. Once you have your documents ready, you can start your electronic visa application.

Troubles encountered when uploading passport photos

Many users have reported difficulties during the passport photo upload step. First, we need to ensure our photos meet the official website requirements:

1. File format: JPEG/JPG/PNG color photo
2. Minimum size: 400x600
3. File size must not exceed 2MB
4. Proper composition

Pay special attention to the third point above! With smartphone cameras becoming increasingly high-resolution, photos taken casually can easily exceed 2MB in size. Whether you’re scanning photos or taking new ones, most will surpass the website’s upload limit and thus fail to pass!

If you’re unfamiliar with adjusting your phone’s settings or don’t know how to reduce file size, here’s a handy tip. You can use messaging apps like Line, which almost everyone has, to send the photo to family or friends and have them send it back. These apps typically compress photos, reducing them to just a few hundred KB without losing quality.
