Don’t Park Illegally in Ubud, Bali! Electronic Ticketing System (ETLE) Launches in 2026: Penalties, Targeted Areas, and Parking Guide

Anyone who’s been to Ubud knows how narrow the roads are. With so many tourists and vehicles, it’s common to see cars parked directly on the roadside—but starting April 28, the police are cracking down.

This Time, It’s Not Just Stickers—Direct Electronic Fines

In the past, illegal parking in Ubud might only result in a warning sticker, and you could park there again without consequences. But now, things have changed.

Ubud police, along with the Roads Agency, Gianyar Regency Transportation Department, and Bali’s traditional community security force (pecalang), have launched enforcement on Jalan Raya Ubud, the busiest main street in Ubud. This time, it’s not just warning stickers—violators will receive electronic fines directly through the ETLE system (Indonesia’s Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement).

During this operation, 15 vehicles were officially issued electronic fines, while 25 others received warning stickers.

Ubud’s Traffic Congestion Is Getting Worse

Honestly, Ubud’s traffic situation in recent years can only be described as “increasingly chaotic.” The narrow streets were never designed to handle heavy traffic, and when cars park haphazardly on the roadside, it effectively halves the usable road width.

Ubud Police Chief I Wayan Putra Antara also admitted that using shoulders and roads as free parking spaces is one of the direct causes of local traffic congestion. He stated that such enforcement actions will continue regularly in the future.

It’s worth mentioning that before taking action, the police specifically reminded law enforcement officers to remain calm. In addition to issuing tickets, they should also explain to drivers the actual impact of illegal parking on traffic. I think this approach is correct—relying solely on fines isn’t enough. Only by making people truly understand that ‘your parking method has left hundreds of cars behind you unable to move’ can we have a chance to change habits.
