Whenever friends ask me to recommend a spot near Ubud town that still offers a taste of Ubud’s natural beauty, should I suggest the Tegalalang Rice Terraces? No—that place has become overwhelmingly commercialized in recent years! Instead, let’s recommend a place you can easily reach on foot, known as ‘Ubud’s Skywalk’: the Campuhan Ridge Walk.
First off, the name ‘Campuhan’ has many incorrect transliterations online. In Indonesian pronunciation, it’s closer to ‘Cham-poo-han’. A ‘Ridge Walk’ is a specific type of hike or walk, usually along a ridge or its crest, allowing participants to enjoy stunning views on both sides.
Today, we’re introducing the Campuhan Ridge Walk, a hidden gem near Ubud’s city center that offers tranquility and beautiful scenery. This trail runs along a ridge, providing spectacular 360-degree panoramic views high above the city, far from the noise—unlike the Tegalalang Rice Terraces, which have lost their natural charm to commercialization.

How to get to Ubud’s Skywalk?
You’d think a place this secluded would be far from the bustling commercial area, right? Surprisingly, the Campuhan Ridge Walk is only 640 meters from the Starbucks at Ubud Water Palace, about a 10-minute walk. Along the way to the trail entrance, you’ll pass a museum, a commercial area with many small shops, and even a magical stretch that feels like stepping through time:

How long does the Ubud Sky Walk take?
The Campuhan Ridge Walk, from the entrance shown on the map above to the end of the ridge, takes about 20 to 30 minutes one way if you walk without stopping. You can continue for another 5 to 10 minutes to reach Karsa Kafe and other small eateries in the area for a coffee or a bite to eat.
If you stop to enjoy the scenery or take photos along the way, it may take longer. Keep in mind this is one-way time, and you’ll need to retrace your steps back. If you plan to include this in your itinerary, you should set aside at least 2 to 2.5 hours.
Best time to visit the Ubud Sky Walk
It’s best to start the Campuhan Ridge Walk as early as possible around sunrise. Since the trail is on a ridge with little shade, it can get quite hot quickly. We recommend starting between 6:00 and 7:00 AM, or even beginning your morning walk before sunrise for the best experience!
You can also choose to do this walk just before sunset. While it starts off quite warm, the temperature becomes very pleasant by the end, which is also a nice option.
We don’t recommend doing the Campuhan Ridge Walk in the afternoon or evening. During the day, it can be quite hot and unpleasant due to limited shade under the sun. At night, there’s no lighting, so you’ll miss all the beautiful views and the walk will become much more difficult.
Does the Ubud Skywalk require an entrance fee?
The Campuhan Ridge Walk is a free trail that requires no ticket purchase. Visitors can freely access and enjoy this beautiful natural pathway, exploring the scenery and ridge landscapes of the Ubud area without any additional cost. Please remember to respect the local environment, keep the trail clean, and follow local regulations.
