Art Collection and Spatial Design at the Resort
Mulia Resort is not only renowned for its luxurious facilities but also uniquely integrates contemporary artworks from around the world into every corner, turning the entire resort into an open-air art space. These pieces, created by artists from China, India, and beyond, are scattered throughout guest rooms, restaurants, lobbies, walkways, and pool areas, crafting a vacation experience that blends cultural sophistication with visual delight.
Serene Art in the Guest Rooms
Upon entering a guest room, you’re greeted by authorized paintings from Nanjing artist Yu Qiping. Yu specializes in traditional Chinese literati painting, interpreting classical aesthetics with a restrained contemporary flair. The figures in his works often immerse themselves in contemplation, surrounded by lotus flowers, still waters, or birds in flight—these paintings don’t demand attention but quietly accompany you as you rest, infusing the private space with tranquility and depth. Amid Bali’s vibrant vacation atmosphere, this serenity perfectly embodies the essence of true luxury: an inner calm.
Contemporary Creative Dialogue in the Lobby
The Mulia Villas lobby showcases a massive work by Shanghai artist Pianzi. Born in Yunnan and based in Shanghai, Pianzi creates with a humorous and symbolic perspective, using her signature cat imagery and layered symbols to build scenes that balance imagination and order. Another piece transforms a traditional abacus into a structure of human faces, turning ‘calculation’ into a metaphor for the relationship between individuals and groups—a restrained discussion on commerce, order, and social rhythms presented in the space, inviting guests to ponder the systemic logic behind daily life.
The Power Narrative of Table8 Restaurant
At the Table 8 Chinese restaurant within the resort, works by Guangzhou artist Huang Zhongyang reinterpret historical themes through a cross-cultural lens. His creations, centered on Empress Dowager Cixi, explore the literal and metaphorical meanings of ‘reflection’ through the imagery of mirrors, presenting power with subtle and delicate brushstrokes—not declaring, but questioning. The subtle interplay between Cixi and the monkey in the painting silently challenges power structures. In this space where tradition meets precision cooking, art leaves ample room for thought beyond taste.
A Tribute to Labor and Service on the Walkway
Along the resort’s walkway, Indian contemporary artist Valay Shende constructs human figures from metal discs and clock parts, exploring labor, collaboration, and collective identity. Inspired by Mumbai’s famous dabbawala system, the body made of watch faces symbolizes time and reliability, while the stomach, shaped like a lunchbox, points to nourishment and need. This sculpture subtly captures the essence of hotel service: not a performance, but a steady and consistent fulfillment.
Water Blessings in the Pool Area
In the courtyard pool, ocean pool, and oasis pool areas, three female statues inspired by Bali’s water goddess Dewi Danu symbolize water, fertility, and the cycle of life. The lotus in the courtyard pool represents devotion and purity; the water bowl in the ocean pool signifies purification; the rice and water in the oasis pool embody nourishment and renewal. These custom pieces become key markers of the space, seamlessly connecting architecture, landscape, and local beliefs, allowing every moment by the pool to feel culturally and spiritually enriching.
Mulia Resort’s curation philosophy emphasizes experience and depth over mere display. Art need not be understood all at once but unfolds gradually during your stay. In an era where contemporary luxury often chases expression and scale, Mulia chooses a more restrained path—art does not assert its presence but naturally blends into the space. This is true luxury: born from clear choices and values that stand the test of time.

Real Guest Reviews

This was my first stay at this hotel, and I joined their morning yoga class with friends. We took a shuttle to an outdoor yoga space overlooking a vast grassland. The gentle morning breeze and birdsong made the entire experience incredibly relaxing. The class wasn’t difficult—just basic poses, perfect for starting the day.
The instructor’s English was simple and easy to follow, allowing guests from different countries to participate. Since seating is limited, make sure to arrive on time. The whole session felt deeply connected to nature, which was especially healing. The teacher was very friendly and even offered to take photos for us after class. Lucky for us, the sky was clear and blue—a perfect backdrop! If you want to greet the day in a relaxing yet energizing way, I highly recommend this morning yoga class.

From the moment you step into the hotel, you feel like royalty! The staff helped with luggage, and check-in was quick and easy. The room’s cleanliness was stunning—tables and glass surfaces were spotless, the bathroom was spacious and bright, and the sheets were immaculate.
The breakfast buffet was rich and delicious, with every dish leaving a lasting impression. Check-out was just as smooth and efficient, with no delays. The pool was spacious, and even during the Christmas season, I could swim freely like a pro without bumping into other guests. I have absolutely no complaints about this stay—we enjoyed every moment and can’t wait to come back!

We chose to stay for seven nights during the low season in early November, which gave the entire resort a serene and peaceful atmosphere. Even as more guests checked in later, it still felt very comfortable—whether at breakfast or by the pool, we always had plenty of private space.
Breakfast was the highlight of the day! The restaurant offers a rich selection of international cuisine, including Balinese, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, and Western dishes. The dessert section is a must-visit, with an array of pastries and freshly made ice cream. Our kids even happily enjoyed ice cream for breakfast every day!
Dining at other restaurants like Table 8 (Chinese) and Edogin (Japanese) was also very satisfying, with reasonable prices and excellent quality. Our favorite restaurant, however, was Soleil—its wood-fired pizzas and Southeast Asian dishes amazed us, rivaling the best meals we’ve had in Thailand and Vietnam.

As for facilities, the resort’s gym boasts state-of-the-art equipment but is rarely crowded, making it perfect for travelers seeking a quiet workout. The multiple pools offer different styles, with the Ocean Pool being the most popular.
Finally, the cost was very satisfying. Our daily dining for three people was around USD$100, which is quite affordable for a high-end resort. Compared to other luxury hotels, Mulia Resort’s service, quality, and value are truly impressive.
This was our first time in Bali, and Mulia Resort gave us the perfect start. From the food to the facilities, from the service to the atmosphere, every day was incredibly relaxing and enjoyable. We will definitely return and highly recommend it to anyone seeking luxury and tranquility!
