Bali Visa Extension Strategy: Visit the Immigration Office Corresponding to Your Area
Many people find that one month is simply not enough when visiting Bali. Want to stay longer? Then you’ll need to deal with visa extensions.
The extension process itself isn’t difficult, but recently many travelers have encountered a frustrating issue: Which immigration office should I go to? Bali has several immigration offices, and choosing the wrong one not only wastes a trip but could also delay your visa deadline.
First, Understand What Visa You Have
Most tourists visiting Bali use the electronic visa on arrival (eVisa on Arrival). This visa costs IDR 500,000 (approximately USD$32) and can be applied for online a few days before departure. It is valid for 30 days and can be extended once for an additional 30 days, allowing a maximum legal stay in Indonesia of 60 days.
How to Extend? Online + In-Person, Both Are Necessary
Bali’s visa extension uses a ‘Hybrid Application Process’—first submit your application online on the official immigration website (evisa.imigrasi.go.id), then you must visit the designated immigration office within 48 hours (including working days) to verify fingerprints, check documents, and in some cases, attend an interview.
This system was introduced in May 2025 in response to the increasing number of foreigners working and investing in Bali on tourist visas, prompting the immigration bureau to implement stricter controls.
Which Immigration Office to Visit Depends on Where You Stay
This is where most people get confused. The immigration office handling your visa extension is determined by the address you provide in your application, not your personal choice.
The Denpasar Immigration Office covers areas including Denpasar City, Gianyar, Bangli, and parts of Badung Regency (Mengwi, Abiansemal, Penang). So, whether you’re staying in Canggu, Seminyak, Legian, Kuta, Uluwatu, Sanur, Ubud, or even Kintamani, you’ll need to report to the Denpasar Immigration Office.
If you’re staying in Tabanan, such as Kedungu, Tanah Lot, Balian, Bedugul, or Jatiluwih, you’ll need to visit the Tabanan Immigration Office. For those in Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Ceningan, or eastern Semarapura, head to the Klungkung Immigration Office. Travelers in the northern and western parts of the island should go to the Singaraja Immigration Office.
To summarize:
| Accommodation Area | Corresponding Immigration Office | | Canggu, Seseh, Seminyak, Legian, Kuta, Uluwatu, Sanur, Ubud, and even Kintamani | Denpasar Immigration Office | | Kedungu, Tanah Lot, Balian, Bedugul, and Jatiluwih | Tabanan Immigration Office | | Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Ceningan, and cities like Semarapura | Klungkung Immigration Office | | North and west of the island | Singaraja Immigration Office |

Immigration Enforcement is Tightening
In addition to updates in the visa extension process, Bali has recently established a specialized immigration inspection unit—the Dharma Dewata Immigration Patrol. They regularly patrol popular tourist areas and expat hubs. The official stance is clear: the goal is to prevent violations and ensure that travelers who genuinely come to enjoy Bali and follow the rules can stay here with peace of mind.
To put it bluntly, Bali is now much stricter on visa violations than before. Whether it’s working on a tourist visa, taking on freelance projects, or overstaying, offenders will be dealt with immediately upon discovery.
Staying Longer in Bali? Know the Rules First
I think the visa extension system is quite reasonable overall. With online applications and in-person visits, the process is clear. As long as you prepare your documents in advance and plan your timing well, it’s not that difficult to handle.
The most important point: The accommodation address you provide when applying for a visa extension must be where you’re actually staying, as this directly determines which immigration office you’ll need to visit. For travelers planning to move around multiple areas in Bali, it’s best to schedule your visa extension during your longest stay in one location to avoid unnecessary travel between regions.
Want to enjoy a full 60 days in Bali? Once you understand these rules, you can relax and savor every day. ☀️
