According to the latest news in 2024, Bali has recently seen multiple suspected and confirmed rabies cases, raising serious concerns.
In Batuan Village, Sukawati, Gianyar Regency, a dog suspected of having rabies bit five people in just a few days, including two children. The dog exhibited clear abnormal behavior: disorientation, excessive excitement, and strong aggression. However, local authorities did not act promptly, and on May 29, the dog even broke through glass, injuring multiple people.
At the same time, in Melaya village of Jembrana, a black-and-white stray dog attacked eight people, including a cat.
According to data from Bali’s health authorities, as of now:
- Over 39,000 cases of suspected rabies-related animal bites have been reported this year
- 90% were caused by dogs
- 268 people have been confirmed infected, with 5 fatalities
