Bali Tourism Tax: No Escape! 'Secondary Checkpoint' Officially Launched: Latest Payment Process, Penalties, and Tips

🗞️ ‘Secondary Checkpoint’ for Tourism Tax Inspection Officially Launched

With the advancement of the 2026 high-quality tourism policy, Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) has shifted from ‘self-declaration’ to ‘comprehensive interception’ for the IDR 150,000 Tourism Levy. Starting today, the ‘secondary checkpoint’ makes evading payment impossible:

  • Interception Location and Process: The Levy Vouchers Lane is precisely set between the ‘Customs Baggage Claim Area’ and the ‘Arrival Hall Exit’. This means that even after passing through immigration customs and collecting luggage, travelers must pass through this digital scanning gate before stepping out of the airport’s final door to meet their driver or family.
  • Digital Connection and Payment Mechanism: Inspectors will ask travelers to present the Love Bali QR Code for scanning. Multiple quick payment counters set up by Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) are available on-site. Travelers who haven’t paid cannot proceed directly and must pay instantly via QRIS (supports international digital payments), credit card, or debit card.
  • Strict Inspection Background and Data: Official data shows that only about 40% of foreign tourists voluntarily paid the tourism tax in the early stages. To achieve the 2026 tourism revenue target of 6.63 million visitors and allocate funds to waste treatment centers (TPST) and cultural heritage protection, the provincial government has decided to implement ‘comprehensive inspection’.
  • Departure Chain Restrictions: In addition to entry inspections, the tourism bureau and airlines (SITA system) are in a critical phase of linkage testing. In the future, if the system shows that a traveler has not paid the tourism tax during their stay on the island, they may not be able to obtain their boarding pass upon departure and must settle the payment before being allowed to proceed.

📄 Traveler Concerns: How to Avoid Getting Stuck?

  • Pre-download the Certificate: Airport Wi-Fi is highly unstable during peak times. It is strongly recommended that travelers download the Love Bali PDF certificate or QR Code screenshot to their phone album at their departure location or directly bind it with the All Indonesia App.
  • Risk of Double Payment: If traveling to nearby Nusa Lembongan or Nusa Penida and returning to the main island during the stay, there is no need to pay again. However, be sure to retain the original QR Code for inspection by boat or dock personnel.
  • Avoid Fake Websites: Recently, several fake websites charging up to IDR 300,000 (double the price) have appeared. Please verify the only official domain: lovebali.baliprov.go.id.
