🗞️ ‘Secondary Checkpoint’ for Tourism Tax Verification Officially Launched

With the advancement of the 2026 high-quality tourism policy, Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) has shifted from ‘self-declaration’ to ‘comprehensive interception’ for the collection of the 150,000 IDR Tourism Levy. The ‘secondary checkpoint’ launched today makes avoiding payment impossible:

  • Interception Location and Process: The Levy Vouchers Lane is precisely set up between the baggage claim area and the arrival hall exit. This means that even if travelers have passed immigration and collected their luggage, they must pass through this digital scanning gate before stepping out of the airport’s final door to meet their driver or family.
  • Digital Connection and Payment Mechanism: Officers will ask travelers to show the Love Bali QR Code for scanning. Multiple quick payment counters set up by Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) are available on-site. Travelers who haven’t paid cannot proceed directly and must pay immediately via QRIS (supports international digital payments), credit card, or debit card.
  • Background and Data: Official data shows that only about 40% of foreign tourists voluntarily paid the tourism tax in the early stages. To achieve the 2026 target of 6.63 million tourist arrivals and allocate funds to waste management centers (TPST) and cultural heritage protection, the provincial government has decided to implement ‘comprehensive verification’.
  • Departure Restrictions: In addition to entry checks, the tourism bureau and airlines (SITA system) are in a critical phase of testing linkage. In the future, if the system shows that a traveler has not paid the tourism tax during their stay, they may not be able to obtain their boarding pass upon departure and must settle the payment before being allowed to proceed.

📄 Traveler Concerns: How to Avoid Getting Stuck?

  • Pre-download Proof: Airport Wi-Fi is extremely unreliable during peak hours. It is strongly recommended that travelers download the Love Bali PDF certificate or QR Code screenshot to their phone gallery or bind it directly with the All Indonesia App before departure.
  • Risk of Double Payment: If traveling to nearby Nusa Lembongan or Nusa Penida and returning to the main island during your stay, no additional payment is required. However, be sure to retain the original QR Code for verification by boat or dock personnel.
  • Avoid Fake Websites: Recently, several counterfeit websites charging up to 300,000 IDR (double the price) have emerged. Always verify the official domain: lovebali.baliprov.go.id.
