The Most Beautiful Festival Season in Bali Begins This Month
In mid-2026, Bali welcomes a series of major religious and cultural festivals that draw global attention, expected to attract international travelers eager to experience the island’s unique charm.
- Traditional Religious Twin Festivals (June 17–27): Bali’s most important religious events, Galungan and Kuningan, will take place consecutively. During this time, the island’s streets will be adorned with tall bamboo decorations (Penjor), and ten days of ceremonies and family visits will unfold. Schools will close for two weeks, and public transport and private drivers will often take time off, so travelers should plan transportation well in advance.
- Longest-Running Arts Festival (June 13–July 11): The month-long Bali Arts Festival kicks off in Denpasar with a grand parade. As Indonesia’s oldest cultural event, it showcases the island’s rich heritage through traditional dance, instrumental performances, and handicraft markets.
- Local Village and Nature Festivals (June–July): Highlights include the Pandawa Beach Festival in the south (June 18–20), the Penglipuran Village Festival (July 10–12) celebrating traditional village architecture and lifestyle, and the Jatiluwih Rice Terrace Festival (July 20–22) held at a UNESCO World Heritage site, blending agriculture with hiking activities.
- International Beach and Music Events (July–August): In July and August, Sanur Beach hosts the spectacular Bali Kite Festival with giant traditional kite competitions (exact dates TBD). Following that, the Ubud Jazz Festival (UVJF), recognized as one of Indonesia’s top ten national events, will take center stage on August 7–8, bringing together world-class musicians for an international musical feast.
