Located in Ubud, Bali, Taman Dedari (Fairy Garden) is a newly opened tourist attraction in early 2021, situated in the village of Kedewatan in the Ubud district of Gianyar Regency, specifically on Jalan Raya Kedewatan. The name derives from “dedari,” meaning “fairy,” inspired by the legend of Rsi Markandeya. It is said that this sage witnessed the miraculous sight of fairies descending from the heavens while meditating near the Ayung River, which is why the river is called Ayung River, symbolizing beauty and sanctity.

The Historical and Cultural Background of Taman Dedari

Taman Dedari is not just a beautiful garden but also a place rich in historical and cultural significance. The centerpiece of the park is the Dedari fairy statue, designed with inspiration from the legend of Rsi Markandeya. According to the legend, Rsi Markandeya witnessed the divine descent of angels to the Ayung River during his meditation, which became the origin of the park’s name. The establishment of Taman Dedari is not only for commercial purposes but also to preserve and promote Bali’s culture and traditions.
