Avoiding Bali’s peak tourist seasons not only helps save on budgets for flights and accommodations but also allows for a more serene travel experience—a truly wise decision. So, when exactly are Bali’s peak seasons? Generally, the dry season from April to September, when rainfall is less likely, is the best time to visit Bali, making it the local tourist peak season. Although the rainy season might not offer ideal weather, it provides a different perspective of Bali and discounted flights and accommodations.

Bali’s Five Peak Tourist Seasons

Apart from distinguishing peak and off-peak seasons by weather, the following five special periods also attract large numbers of tourists to Bali:

【First Place】Eid al-Fitr

  • Indonesian Eid al-Fitr Holiday (dates vary each year): Eid al-Fitr is a significant Muslim festival in Indonesia, during which many Indonesians travel to Bali for vacation, causing a surge in crowds. This is Bali’s number one peak season—definitely avoid this period to escape the crowds!
  • The national holiday lasts about ten days. Eid al-Fitr is Indonesia’s most important holiday, celebrating the end of Ramadan for Muslims, but it’s also a time for Indonesians to spend with family and friends, akin to the Chinese Lunar New Year.
  • In 2026, Bali is expected to start seeing an influx of local Indonesians from March 13th, filling the island for about two weeks. This is the first of Bali’s five peak seasons—a holiday you’re advised to avoid visiting Bali!

【Second Place】Christmas and New Year Holidays

Christmas-New Year Holiday (December 25 to January 1): Christmas and New Year are major holidays in Europe, America, Australia, and New Zealand, as well as peak travel seasons in many Asian countries. The New Year holiday typically attracts tourists from around the world, as it is a long break for most Western countries, and Indonesians also try to take time off. Therefore, the Christmas and New Year holidays rank as the second busiest period in terms of crowds and traffic. Here’s a short video you can watch showing the situation on the highway to the airport on December 29, 2023 VID0. Hotel and flight prices in Bali usually surge during this period.

Third Place: Chinese Lunar New Year

The Chinese Lunar New Year is one of the most important festivals in Asia, and many Asian tourists visit Bali during this time. Besides China and Taiwan, countries like Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and Vietnam also have holidays ranging from two to five days; the Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia have a one-day holiday on the first day of the Lunar New Year, and in 2026, Indonesia will have a four-day holiday during the Lunar New Year. The Lunar New Year holiday ranks third in attracting large crowds to tourist spots.

Fourth Place: Summer Vacation

July to September: During the summer vacation in the Northern Hemisphere, many families and students choose to vacation in Bali, leading to increased flight and hotel prices. Many families and students take advantage of this time to visit Bali. Flight and accommodation prices during summer vacation are never cheap!

Fifth Place: Term Break

Australian School Holidays and Indonesian International School Holidays (Term Break, usually a week between September 20 and October 10): Term breaks for Australian and Indonesian international schools also bring a wave of tourists, but the number of visitors is less than a third compared to the top four periods. I’ve taken advantage of this holiday to visit Bali several times!
